Everyone has their favourite yummy Ipoh Kai See Hor Fun. The discourse on 'KSHF' is as old as one can remember, especially to Perak-ians and Ipoh Boys. But here's a fun fact.....Do you know Ipoh Kai See Hor Fun has the same beginnings or rather DNA with Penang Hokkien Mee (also know as Penang Prawn Mee) !? You didn't, right?
This outlet called Ipoh Boy KSHF is aptly named ....it has an air of muted confidence-arrogance which actually put them right in the fray of the perennial best Ipoh KSHF discourse.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here despite having an early morning start with 2 breakfast sessions in Ipoh. The broth was silly smooth with the correct level of umami just short of being choking to the palate. My taste buds went into overdrive the moment my bowl of KSHF came. I was tipped off by a good friend that you must ask for extra prawn cum chilli oil....the clear red color of the oil floating and mingling with the hor fun will definitely set your tongue salivating.
The chicken was done well enough to be up there on the leader board of smoothness. But the surprising dish to me was the bean sprouts. It was blanched perfectly...just enough to get rid of the 'greenish smell' but crunchy enough to give your palate some texture to think about.
After this visit to Ipoh Boy KSHF.....i do not have to live with the rudeness of Thean Chun stall owner who is the King of MSG anyway. I am sure I will get plenty of brickbats from my friends and followers, but ......hey, it's the journey of my tongue that i am writing about. Enjoy it while we can.

Didn't plan anything for Day 2 but this was the day where new discoveries were very good (at least in my book).
We drank quite a lot of wines on the night of Day 1 - 6 bottles for 4 person to be exact - and by the time we woke up the next day, it was already 10am++ and everyone was famished.
Google Search revealed Ipoh Boy Eatery in Tambun area where we stayed - and its high rating was the determining factor. Drove there straight away without any expectation and was wowed by the overall quality of the Ipoh mali dish that can be found literally everywhere.
◾Ipoh hor fun was genuinely delicious with its narrow sheets of hor fun (unlike those in Klang Valley) soaked in the soup brimming with the flavours of chicken stock and prawn oil. Authentic! ◾poached chicken came and it took only the first piece to know that these guys mean business. The meat was nicely chopped and presented on plate... Smooth and sweet drenched in light soy sauce. ◾Blanched octopus - another must try dish where the seafood was blanched at the right doneness. ◾bean sprout - plump, juicy and nice. ◾Meat ball & fish ball - both were quite big in size. ◾Kopi which to my surprise quite good with strong kopi taste.
To those in Tambun and searching for a good bowl of kai si hor...
Read moreI agree with other reviewers that this is a "hidden gem". It really is a gem of a find for not only his signature Shredded Chicken Hor Fun [aka "Kai Si Hor Fun [KSHF]"] but also the stall's Chicken Rice, which comes with a bowl of really tasty soup. The chicken is also really tasty, and smooth and tender. The prawn that comes with the KSHF is properly and painstakingly de-shelled, and is very fresh.
Additionally, the stall's Fish Balls are really good, and sizable. They also have braised chicken feet, but only on Fridays and Saturdays, and these sell out pretty quickly.
Whenever we go back up to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur, we try to make it back in time so that we have our lunch there before their closing time.
The stallholder, Aaron, is also very friendly, always courteously greeting us, and if he's not too busy, will check on how our meal is going.
The bonus point is that the eating place is very clean.
Overall, this place is highly recommended, and probably has one of the best, if not the best...
