Look, sometimes consuming fake meat is good for the soul. Mito is a proudly meat-free restaurant located within a quiet row of shops in Ipoh Garden East. Formerly the premises of V Life, I guess the concept of Mito is geared towards a cafe and restaurant proper, rather than a regular vegetarian place. I mean, so many of them start with the letter V lol.
The decor, like V Life before this, is tastefully done. I love the warm, modern decor that sets a peaceful and inviting tone. Service is excellent. The waiters and waitresses never fail to smile and are always polite. Ordering is through QR code but they have a physical menu as well. Divided into day and night menus, daytime food is lighter fare while nighttime has cocktails.
The menu is extensive and will take awhile to chew through. For food, they recommend the pastas but I was feeling local that day. The nasi lemak has a large portion with well-made "drumsticks" and vegetable curry, just the sambal lacks some sweetness to really make this complete.
The sauna mee is also very generously portioned, but the soup base is salty-ish, not sweet/savoury like Mama Kim's. To each their own though. Appetisers are excellent, the truffle dumplings are light and flavourful while the wild mushroom soup is smooth and creamy. It's a tad too large a bowl though.
Drinks are brilliant as well. You can customise your drinks to less sweet or even no sugar. The Jasmine Passion Bloom, a combo of espresso, jasmine tea and passionfruit juice, is a feast for the eyes and tastebuds. The velvet chocolate is also rich, robust and satisfying.
All in all it was a good first visit, and I'll definitely visit again to sample the rest of the menu. There are entire sections of the menu left to try, like the brunch and western entrees. Massive creativity...
Read moreDined at Mito Ipoh for dinner today, and it was a delightful experience. The restaurant is well-located, offering ample parking without being tucked away in overly crowded tourist spots, which is a relief for locals. I arrived at 6:10 PM, and the restaurant was nearly full—reservations are highly recommended.
The food exceeded my expectations. Mito Ipoh offers a fusion menu with diverse options like pizza, spaghetti, and rice dishes. I ordered the ‘Non-Newtonia Kombucha,’ Unagi Nori, and Woodland Mushroom Aglio-Olio. The Unagi Nori was a pleasant surprise; the crispy fried Nori paired beautifully with the tender Unagi and rice, with just a hint of sweetness from the sauce—an excellent combination. The Aglio-Olio was cooked to perfection—neither too dry nor too oily—and I appreciated the option to adjust the spice level. As for the kombucha, it was perfectly balanced, refreshing without being too sour or sweet, complementing the meal wonderfully.
Service was prompt and thoughtful. Given how full the restaurant was, I was impressed with how quickly the staff adapted to accommodate me as a solo diner by rearranging tables. All my dishes were served within 30 minutes, which was impressive considering the crowd.
The ambiance was chill and relaxing, with just the right amount of lighting. It did get a bit noisy due to the crowd, but nothing unbearable.
Overall, the pricing is reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served. What truly sets Mito Ipoh apart is its unique character—distinct from most other spots in town. I’ll definitely...
Read moreI went there without knowing that they actually don’t serve REAL MEAT 🥹 all their meat was actually made of soy which honestly tasted quite weird. And because it isn’t real meat, the looks of the food was honestly not very appetising especially the teriyaki chicken nori 🤢 … The nori didn’t taste good at all!
They should honestly make it clear on their page that they only offer Plant-based meat. I didnt want to look bad at that time of my visit so I didn’t walk out and just tried a few dishes.
The price was also quite steep considering the fact that all the dishes was “fake meat”…
The only thing I like about is they offer this wintermelon soda drink which is my favourite kind of combination and not always it can be found at other cafes and their cake was honestly not bad.
I seriously hope they can consider changing their menu with some real meat...
