I do not understand what is the hype about this place. I came here to celebrate a birthday occasion with my family, based on strong recommendations from a family friend. The environment seems nice. Decorated with lanterns and flowers. We were given a cordoned room. However, the partition is not full up to the ceiling. Occasionally, I could hear the next table having some business conversation. Waiters are alright at the beginning. Attentive, changing our plates for the first few dishes. After more guest came in, we were left to change the plates ourselves from the counter in our room. Food portion was not generous. For the price paid, you could get more generous portion with equally or better taste. The suckling pig is smaller than their competitor in town. Glutinous rice layer was rather thin. Not enough for 12 of us. Taste otherwise was ok. Food presentation was simple. Not fit for a restaurant that hosts wedding banquets. Very little initiative for presentation for the dishes. Food was served with the style as if eating at a "siew chow" restaurant. Please improve on your presentation to match your highly claimed standards by the locals here. Taste of the dishes are alright but portion and presentation does not match your claimed reputation. We finished our dinner with some feeling disappointment today. As for me, I would definitely NOT return, as for the price paid, one can get better service, portion and satisfaction at other competitor...
Read moreAs what the other 3 star said, the price paid is just insane. 2 of us, we ordered : vegetable, yam ring with sweet & sour pork, and steam whole fish — the bill came up to RM412. WTH? I think we were totally scammed by the service staff/kitchen to have given us a super huge fish. And the vegetables were pathetically little even tho it was delicious. (As pictured we only ate 1 stem each before this pic was taken) Sweet & sour pork was not great either.
When the lady was taking our meal order, she specifically said to choose this particular fish, that is small so we could finish, so we said ok. But it came out to be probably a 2kg fish. The other table who ordered later than us was served the fish before us. Then i asked the server about our fish. One lady said, oh it usually take longer (but we were finishing our food already). The server who took our order saw and went to the kitchen. So I’m just wondering if the sever forgot about our order and just gave a random table’s order to us, then charged us according to the weight, even tho we were promised a small fish. We didn’t argue with them but just paid for it, it costed RM318, just the fish alone.
It’s a old time banquet style restaurant. Displaying/ flaunting the wealth with 6 huge shark fin that honestly I don’t agree upon. Will not come again, if you do please check on the price before you order the fish! Dont be another victim of...
Read moreTheir most famous dish is the wok fried big head freshwater prawns with the raw spring onions doused in hot oil. The medium sized prawns are fragrant and fresh. The head of the prawns are filled with tomalley. This is the best part of these prawns. I was so tempted to order another plate.
The lamb stew was good too but lacked the gamey taste. My family prefer it this way. I prefer my lamb stew with a bit of that gamey taste.
The broccoli with crab meat sauce was my favorite too. The bland taste of the broccoli was complimented nicely by a thick sauce of crab meat, crab tomalley with egg whites. I lapped up my bowl of white rice with the sauce in no time.
Next came the steamed fish paste with tofu. This was a bit of a letdown for me as the fish paste was not good in all aspects - texture or taste. The tofu however was soft, smooth and rich with soybean goodness. I wouldn't settle for anything less when it comes to tofu in Ipoh. It would be a crime to be served bad tofu in Ipoh.
The final dish was the steamed village chicken. This was a 💯 for me. I have not had chicken this good for some time. Just look at how bright the yellow and fat the skin of the chicken is from the picture. This type of chicken is best steamed or poached! Lip...
