Read moreLook, you can't have it all. Fast, cheap or good. You can only pick two.
Sushi Mentai is assuredly, unabashedly, fast and cheap. The McDonald's of the sushi world, they roll out plates upon plates of sushi on their kaiten belt with great speed, efficiency, and aplomb. There's a huge variety to be had, but the chief selling point has to be the low-end price: they're either RM1.80 or RM2.80 per plate.
It has to be said though, while fresh, the sushi is just about supermarket quality. I couldn't tell the difference between this and stuff I bought from Aeon (another culprit is Empire Sushi, but that's another story). There's also an ala carte menu for people craving a more complete meal, but the quality is just average.
Make no mistake, people are mostly here to get full, fast, on cheap kaiten sushi. And there are many customers. On a rainy Wednesday at 5pm, the place is nearly full. The deco is brightly lit, akin to a supermarket, and the kaiten belt moves hurriedly as if rushing you along. There's a sense of unfulfillment at the end of the meal, because while you might be full, you don't feel satiated, if you know what I mean.
If you can spare a bit more time and money, there are way better Japanese restaurants around Ipoh, and they're not...
Read moreI used to think Sushi Mentai is a good and budget friendly place to have some sushi but it has gotten worse. I hope they can improve and make things better and not just serving like a canteen because it’s budget friendly.
The staffs at the front desk would scream loudly for the staffs at the back to take orders from the customers. There are alot of staffs but when you want to take order, nobody can see you.
The quality of the food has gotten worse too and the environment is quite dirty. The dishes are mostly oily.
I went to sushi Mentai again on a weekday before 8pm. We queued up for awhile and after we placed the order, the staff told us that salmon, ebiko, tamago, cawanmushi and a few more items are not available anymore. If so, they should have told us before we queued up because what’s the point of having sushi without the items above?
Really very disappointing experience
31/12/2024 : still disappointed. Poor service and most of the sushi are out of stock even during lunch....
