I was out of idea on what to eat for breakfast one Saturday + out of a sudden I pined for a good siew yuk.

Then, Boon came to mind as it was definitely near to where I was and I just wanted to be done with the breakfast ASAP as I had works to do after that. Parking here proved to be difficult as I had to fight for available carparks with those who want to eat here - plus the popular Jin Xuan Dim Sum of DJ is just down the road.

◾Dry curry wantan noodle with siew yuk & char siew - wantan noodle topped with thick curry gravy flanked by char siew on one side and siew yuk on another = satisfaction! ◾Roasted chicken rice - simple thing to satisfy the sonny who requested a bowl of curry gravy before proceeding to drench the rice and whacked everything. ◾braised pork rice - an easy solution for the usually picky princesses. Small bowls but they could not eat too much in the morning anyway. ◾Chai Boey - to me, the dish was just right with balance of spiciness and sour. Am appetizing dish.

Some might say that the siew yuk of Boon has dropped in standard, but it was just good for me that morning - perfectly roasted with crackling skins. Char siew was also tasted good - or was I was too fungry...

Technical evaluation report (ya. after eating, nothing to do):

  1. Meat: the meat seems like smoke meat before going for roast, never had this type of roast pork with smoke meat before,
  2. Fat: the fat part could have more fat, but very much personal preference,
  3. Roast skin/lard: The roast skin is very good, if you like pork lard, this is crispy pork lard,
  4. Sauce: chili sauce is pure chili + some vinegar (i think), the traditional chicken rice chili sauce type,
  5. Packing: the 1kg roast pork should have come in one piece (FMCO, delivery), the heat can retain within the meat better, the crispy skin/lard can face up. copping in small piece is convenience but also make some pieces up-side down or side way, the juice at the bottom container has made the crispy skin soft. let customer choose whole piece or cube, i will prefer reheat whole piece in oven.
  6. overall rating: google 4 star (improve packing or give customer choose 1 piece or cube will give you 5 star) suggestion: make small pieces all face up in a container with satay stick string them together, ya more work but your customer...

Thank god that I believe in second chances. During my first trip here, I packed a plate of siu yoke noodle and it didn’t quite meet KL standards. Second time around, I finally understand why there’s quite a crowd even on a weekday morning. ⠀ ⠀ Boon’s premise is quite simple - roast pork / bbq honey pork / chicken with noodles / curry noodles / Japanese pearl rice.⠀ ⠀ The establishment doesn’t strive to recreate authentic siu yoke (roast pork). Instead, the roast pork is seasoned with western herbs, while maintaining the crunchy exterior. Seriously, the crunch of each roast pork bite was quite amazing - that’s reason enough to come back.⠀ ⠀ The char siew was coated with a lot of honey and went well with the noodle, but paled in comparison with the superior roast pork. My curry noodle also came with a lime wedge which added a lovely tangy aftertaste. ⠀ On weekends and public holidays, they also roast special iberico roast pork. Yes, you read it right. My partner has tried it and keeps raving about it - pricey,...
