⭐ 0 Star for HONG KEE STALL – RUDE Boss, RUDE Foreign Staff, Disrespectful and Unacceptable
Let me start by saying: DO RE MI Kopitiam is a fantastic place. It has the cozy charm of Taman Megah’s Ming Tien, a clean environment, and the drinks are great — especially their Teh Peng. I genuinely enjoy this kopitiam, and most of the stalls here are friendly and worth supporting.
BUT HONG KEE HAWKER STALL is the one major disgrace in this place. And I mean that with full seriousness. This is the only stall that has ever made me feel insulted, disrespected, and furious — all in one sitting.
What happened:
They accept QR payments, which is normal nowadays and every stalls do in DO RE MI. But when I politely asked the foreign worker if he could bring the QR code over or send a photo or you can bring my phone there to scan for me (since he can see I was eating food from another stall), he snapped at me rudely, saying: “I don’t want. Go there yourself.”
I couldn’t believe I was spoken to like that — by a foreign staff, with no manners, for NO valid reason. I was calm, polite, and made a normal request that every other hawker is happy to help with. There was no reason for that attitude, and I made it clear: “If you don’t present the payment method, I won’t pay.”
Later, after we finished eating and were walking to our car (I was already beside KK Mart), the staff came chasing us for payment. Again, I said I’m ready to pay, just bring the QR code. They still refused. So I asked for the boss, thinking he’d act professionally.
But the boss was WORSE. He came with a restless, sour face, no apology, and told me: “Everyone pays like that. Only you don’t want to.” Excuse me? That is not how a boss speaks to a paying customer.
Completely Unacceptable Conduct: • I was spoken to rudely by the foreign staff for absolutely no reason. • The boss didn’t apologise, didn’t care, and acted like we were a nuisance. • They expected customers to walk to their stall for QR payment — without any signage or communication. • The boss insisted “don’t pay then” — that’s not how you run a food business in Malaysia. • This stall charges Dai Chow prices, but can’t provide basic Dai Chow service or respect. • They were NOT busy. Staff were sitting around. Yet still refused to walk 5 steps with a QR code.
In the end, my friend paid cash just to end the situation — and guess what? The boss had to walk over to collect it anyway. Exactly what I asked from the start. Ridiculous.
Final Verdict:
If this stall was selling RM5 economy rice, fine — I’d queue and pay at the stall myself. But when you charge more than average, the minimum you can do is treat your customers with manners. There’s no excuse for arrogance, rudeness, and total lack of service.
The rest of DO RE MI Kopitiam is amazing and deserves support. But HONG KEE STALL? Never again. They don’t deserve your money — or...

But it’ll be super hot during the day and not good if it rains either. Be prepared to find a parking spot. It’s not easy during peak...
