There's a new challenger in town!
How do you feel when learning that there's a new Nasi Lemak place in town? Specifically Damansara Utama? What!? Isn't that Village Park's territory? My exact thought when I learned that a new kopitiam is serving the same (well, almost) dish as the most popular Nasi Lemak place in town.
With many good reviews on this newcomer, it was only a matter of time before I made my way here. Located right next to Perodua Showroom, you have to overcome the parking issue first. The proprietors were seen greeting passerby and invited them to try their food.
First impression - 思源. I like their name - sounds good, and it has 思 word that my kids name have. The kopitiam is defined to look like, you know, regular kopitiam but with air-conditioned for more comfortable dining experience.
Menu is limited to few items - pulut or glutinous rice, Nasi Lemak and the usual bread + egg. Of course, the usual Kopi/teh/Milo/etc also got la.
◾Nasi Lemak - it's a bold move to offer a dish similar to the famous Village Park. But costing at RM10 for the whole set, they gain upper hand from the start as it was cheaper compared to VP. The sambal was done just nice with the right amount of spiciness and sweetness; every grain of rice was laced with the fragrant coconut milk (I swear that I could smell the rice as soon as it was served). The ayam goreng berempah was fried beautifully - crispy skin and juicy meat with lots of crispy herbs loaded. However, I think that VP had the slight advantage flavour-wise (personal preference). My verdict - for RM10, I'd go for this anytime.
◾Half boileg eggs - old school way to boil the egg with a timer given for you to monitor the time. ◾Steamed bread with Kaya & butter ◾Kopi C and Teh C - there's definitely room for improvement on the flavour. I'm spoilt by my usual Hainanese kopitiam in Raub already.
Note: Chee Cheong Fun (new addition) will be available end of Nov or early December.
For RM10 for the Nasi Lemak set, I'd say it's value for money and a very commendable...
Read moreFirst time came here and i ordered Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berembah and Honey Lemon via their app for my dinner. Taste not bad. While eating my mind is comparing with Village Park. Nasi lemak portion size are quite generous because they put a lot of ikan bilis, kacang and timun. Usually other seller put very little on this. Sambal quite little for me but it's okay because i can request for extra sambal. Once i finished ate Nasi Lemak i ordered Chee Cheong Fun (Plain) via app because i little bit hungry and Nasi Lemak quite delicious so i want to try Chee Cheong Fun to try the taste. I sitting at outside so when i eating Nasi Lemak i can notice customers already start leaving and only 1 customer come in and he also sitting at outside. I waited for almost half an hour but still not yet serve me Chee Cheong Fun. Customers getting lesser and I should say staffs are suppose getting less busier to serve my Chee Cheong Fun. So i believe they most likely forgot my order. This is unacceptable because customers are not increasing at that time. I also did not understand why they put extra tables and chairs at outside but did not ask staff(s) stand at outside/near outside to standby to serve customers?????? You sure customers won't have additional request once they already ordered their foods from your app? What a poor service management. I can't wait anymore so i go inside to pay and I notice staffs are lingering at the cashier counter seems like not very busy. Talk to Cashier lead to another disappointment, sigh. He very blurred with my ordered.
Your competitors are full house during peak hours but service still can maintain at the highest level. Because of bad service i won't come back again. Food i only tried Nasi Lemak so i can't give good rating and recommend much because i don't have chances to try other foods (eg Chee Cheong Fun).
Say Yes Cafe better rename to...
Read moreService: good, enough staff and they are attentive Atmosphere: ok. Table arrangements a bit tight. But it’s designed for quick turnaround —to eat fast and go, so it is how they designed it. Food: I first heard abt this cafe from a FB makan group where it was highly recommended. I ordered grab twice and the food was good. Esp the Chee cheong fun set. But when I finally got a chance to go there to eat, I was somewhat disappointed. Chee cheong fun (CCF) is a simple dish and what dazzles is the balanced combination of sauces that is mixed in to the plate. What I ate could do with less brown sauce (kinda swimming in it). The brown sauce was primarily sweet with little flavour. I asked for extra sambal and when the plate came the server insisted that there was already extra sambal. But in the end I could not finish the sambal as it was heavy on cumin. (Or something else similar). For me, it did not pair well with the sweet sauce. When I had it previously from there was a nice balance of flavour of dried shrimps & chilli in the sambal and brown sauce. At that time, I though they found the winning combination. In order to continue to ride on the wave, there needs to be a bit more consistency on the food quality…just my two cents. Coffee: my first time dine in and I had kopi o kosong. For the price, it could do better to rival the kopitiam apek style, in terms of aroma and intensity. I look forward to how they will continue to find the right winning combination...
