Been frequenting Paya Serai for many years now, it's my family's favorite place to have our last Iftar on the last day of Ramadan to commemorate the eve of Raya. The food's usually just okay, nothing too delicious to shout about but I've always loved the staff's hospitality. They are always attentive, always ready to serve and clear the plates and they seem to do it happily. Since Raya this year has been somewhat hectic, we didn't manage to go on the last Iftar, but went to celebrate Raya Day 8. Nowadays they do not have the buffet service anymore, but they do have a course meal and serve each item separately, from Appetizers, Main Course to the Desserts. Mind you the portion was generous! We had a hard time trying to finish off each dish. Since it was Raya, the main dishes were all Raya entrees. We had fruits, laksa, rojak, rendang, lemang, ketupat, rice with a number of lauk, kuih, bubur gandum and many more. The highlight for us was the Butter Prawn. The best part was, they let us take home the ones we couldn't finish to bring home so there was no wastage. I hope they're able to serve buffet soon, the buffet counter did look a bit...
Read moreBeen wanting to come here for awhile but never got to do so till now. Came during the mco when they allowed dining in. I tried the genji omakase kaizeki which is a 7 course meal which the chef would decide on the items. I was told that it was sufficient for 2 people so went ahead with it. I guess it barely is sufficient to be shared with 2 people and certainly not if Ure really hungry that day. I would say the meal was pleasant. Tasted decent but couple of negatives here. For the price paid I'm disappointed with the ingredients used. Very basic and not premium. Few prawns, tuna, salmon, small piece of cod fish and 3 scallop's. Definitely not worth the price paid. In terms of creativity from the chef side again would say I was terribly disappointed. Nothing outstanding or mind blowing. Service was excellent but I would have like that they explained properly when the dishes were served. Overall a decent dining experience but if u want to consider it a fine dining experience it definitely failed the mark. I doubt I would...
Read moreBuffet review not ala carte. Staff friendly. Food so so and not in line with the price and expectation. Most cooked food are not warm or overcooked. Fresh seafood and sashimi counter average. Prawn is normal size and sushi average. Oyster is those small size type. Noodles section - nice miso soup. Salad section - so so Teppanyaki - limited selection , salmon belly is good but overcooked. Grilled fish n fries food mostly overcooked or cold in the food warmer. Unagj not of good quality type. Tempura is freah but so so taste. I noticed that Malaysia restaurant like to use food warmer which degrades the food. The food shld be prepared or sliced upon customer order and not pre cooked n kept in food warmer. Dessert - worst of the sections. Nothing is nice quality.
