I recently had the pleasure of dining at Restoran Jiann Chyi in Sekinchan, and I must say, it was an unforgettable culinary experience. The star of the show for me was their shark porridge and fried shark meat – truly exotic and simply awesome.
The shark porridge was a revelation. It had a rich and flavorful broth that was both comforting and tantalizing to the taste buds. The tender pieces of shark meat in the porridge were cooked to perfection, maintaining a delicate texture that was a delight to savor. The blend of spices and herbs used in this dish created a harmonious symphony of flavors that left me craving for more.
Now, let's talk about the fried shark meat. It was nothing short of spectacular. The crispy outer coating gave way to succulent and juicy shark meat on the inside. The seasoning was impeccable, striking a perfect balance between savory and slightly spicy. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and I couldn't get enough of it.
The ambiance at Restoran Jiann Chyi was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive dining experience.

The chili minced prawn was a standout — stir-fried with lots of flavour, with a nice spicy kick that paired beautifully with rice. The deep-fried squid was also fresh and well-cooked — saw some reviews saying it was rubbery, but thankfully ours was just right, with a nice bite and not chewy at all.
We also tried a soup with shark meat and fish balls — this one might be a bit of an acquired taste. The shark meat had a unique texture, maybe a bit too firm for our liking. Personally, something like stingray would have been more familiar, but that’s just preference.
The kedondong sour plum (沙梨酸梅) was refreshing and very well-balanced, perfect as a palate cleanser.
Quick service, friendly boss and staff — it’s a solid spot for fresh seafood if you’re...
Read moreWe ordered 4 dishes, stir fried sweet potato leaves (RM15), black sauce shark fish (RM30), fried squid (RM30) and chilli prawn(RM30) which is not in the picture. The vegetables was nicely cooked, soft and flavourful. The shark fish was slightly salty but pair well with rice. The fried squid was fresh but overcooked a little bit which makes it rubbery. The chilli prawn was quite disappointing when it was served as the taste was quite bland, the prawn size was like the dried shrimp and the portion was small. The bill comes up to RM127 inclusive of the 4 dishes, 4 white rices (RM1.50 each) and 4 ambula juices(沙梨汁), RM4 each. All the dishes ordered were for 3 paxes although there are 4 of us. The environment was ok, clean and has good air ventilation. Most probably wouldn’t be coming back again as overally the food...
