Nasi Dagang is one of my favourite meals of all time, and I could eat it every day and never get worn out of it. And, unfortunately, not all Nasi Dagang in Klang Valley are suitable for my palate. That's why, after over a decade of living in Cyberjaya, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have discovered Seri Dagang, which serves one of the best Nasi Dagang I've ever tasted, and which closely resembles my mother's cooking. Since their inception a few months ago, I've quickly become a regular customer.
When it comes to Terengganu's pride meal, I always prefer it served the traditional way, with a plate of 'ikan tongkol' and rice, topped with a scoop of pickled cucumbers and carrots. That is all there is to it. It completes a plate. There's no need for fancy ingredients.
The rice was fragrantly cooked with onions, ginger, and something called halba, giving it a nice aroma and a moist texture. The fish curry turned out among the finest I'd had in a very long time.
The curry was spice-rich, velvety from the milk from coconuts, yet wasn't excessively rich, and the fish, a type of 'ikan tongkol' was savoury and thick.
The pickled cucumbers, carrots, and onions, known more commonly as 'acar,' had an exquisite freshness to them and had been just slightly sour and sweet.
It's a simple meal, but simpler is always better when it comes to savouring the authenticity of Nasi Dagang, which originated in Terengganu and is now accessible in Cyberjaya.
They also serve Nasi Minyak, Nasi Lemak, and a variety of 'kuih-muih' such as karipap, kuih lipat, kuih cara, and ketupat, rounding out the restaurant as a place for traditional food lovers.
And I find it convenient to dine here because the restaurant is simple yet comfortable. Not to mention the owners' friendliness, which makes you feel at ease. That's why I frequently come here, as if my week wouldn't be complete without tasting the best Nasi...

There is one makcik yang kelam kabut, marah marah, bercakap kasar dan biadap (Makcik Marah Marah).
Masa mula mula sampai, kedai hanya ada seorang customer tengah minum. Mak cik Marah Marah tu tanya nak order apa, then saya cakap nasi lemak ayam.
Saya tak sempat cakap order seterusnya, dia terus bungkus nasi lemak. Saya tunggu. Dah bungkus nasi lemak, dia tanya “lagi?”. Saya cakap nasi kerabu daging. Belum sempat habis cakap, dia terus ke belakang bungkus nasi kerabu.
Time ni ada seorang lagi pekerja (Pekerja 2) datang depan tanya nak order apa lagi. Then Pekerja 2 bungkus nasi dagang.
Makcik Marah Marah datang ke depan semula bawa nasi kerabu daging. Dia tanya sapa “ada apa lagi?”. Saya cakap “nasi dagang dan nasi kerabu ayam. Saya dah bagitau dia” sambil tunjuk pada pekerja 2.
Then Makcik Marah Marah membentak “oh nasi kerabu lagi satu ke? Tak payah bagitau dia (sambil tunjuk Pekerja 2) bagitau saya. Saya bungkus”. Time ni dah rasa lain macam mak cik ni. Saya pandang suami dan cakap slowly “dia marah kita pula”
Kemudian, dah settle bungkus, dia total up, cakap “49.50” sambil jalan. Kenapa tanya2 dia lagi?! Nak bayar pakai apa?”
My husband terus cakap “Kad. Makcik jangan marah marah saya mak cik, saya nak beli ni”.
Makcik Marah Marah: “Saya tak marah. Tapi kan saya dah cakap tadi harga. Tanya2 lagi pula! Macam tadi bagitau ja bungkus nasi kerabu dekat saya (dia refer pada kes saya order kat Pekerja 2), saya yang buat nasi kerabu!”.
Husband:”Tak boleh la macam tu makcik. Saya datang pagi2 ni nak beli kat makcik, makcik marah marah pula. Susah la nak datang lepas ni.”
Makcik Marah Marah: “Ha dah tak payah datang! Awak ni saya dah la macam macam masalah!”
Suami: “Saya pun ada masalah makcik. Tapi takkan lah nak marah marah semua orang.”
Dia buat muka. Machine kad dia pula rosak. My husband cakap “jadi macam mana ni? Saya nak bayar.”
Saya dah malas nak panjang2 ambil phone from my husband untuk scan QR.
Makcik Marah Marah: “Ha awak bayar. Awak tak banyak cakap senang (signaling at me). Saya tak nak cakap dengan awak dah tak pernah jumpa laki banyak cakap macam ni (to my husband). Tak nak datang sudah. Saya tauke!”
Oh my. Istighfar saja time ni. Marah tapi macam lawak pun ada dia kata laki aku cakap banyak 😂.
Saya: “Saya pun tengah sabar ja ni makcik.”
Saya QR then terus jalan keluar. Terlampau terkejut. We should have just walked out earlier and ditch the orders. Tapi tak tau kenapa kami went on bayar je. Dah malas nak fikir.
Then kat luar saya saja ja snap signboard kedai.
Read moreMy wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant last week when our original breakfast plan got cancelled. We thought we’d give it a try and we were not disappointed. The restaurant was clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
I ordered a teh tarik with less sugar and a nasi dagang with chicken curry, while my wife had a laksam. The teh tarik was perfect, not too sweet and not too milky. The laksam was also delicious, with a creamy coconut gravy and fresh herbs. The nasi dagang was okay, but I felt it could have been more flavorful and moist. My wife liked it though, so maybe it’s just a matter of personal preference.
We didn’t use the washroom, so we can’t say anything about that. The parking was not a problem, as it was free for the first hour and only RM1.50 for the next hour.
We enjoyed our breakfast at this restaurant and we would definitely come back again. If you’re looking for a nice and relaxing place to have a bite, you should...
