Went here twice, thanks to friend recommendation. For both visit i had
spiced chai latte
The coffee not strong. The spice also not strong. The milk quite sweet. All this resulted in a non too satisfying chai latte. If the milk less sweet, or coffee stronger /bitter, it'll be better. The milk super foamy, almost like eating a dessert.
chicken katsu don
Deep fried panko breaded ciken breast, egg, rice, with dashi as broth. So the rice kinda wet wet.
The egg is very nice. Fluffy like chawamushi.thats interesting. The dashi a little light on flavor
mentaiko pasta
I expected it to be creamy, like most. But no. This is like in a light, somewhat refreshing, bonito tomato sauce. Very nice. Like a lovely summer vibe fishy-ish tomato soup.
Got a dollop of mentaiko with salmon belly in it. When mixed, baru creamy. But still less creamy than other place hence less jelak/mual.
This is quite nice. It can somewhat fall in the trapping of underseasoned/too light, but i think they strike the right balance. Not everything need to be super thick or salty, and this is the dish that highlights that
lamb short of loin
Charcoal grill lamb With charcoal grill japanese sweet potato. Got 3 type of sauce.I got the Sarawak blackpepper one.
Oh. My. God. This is like, the best meat i ever had
The exterior got dark, burnt, charcoally bark. Like satay. The meat is so so smoky. Its not too salty on its own. Nicely seasoned. Suuuperr tender. Unbelievably tender. So much flavor
Same goes to the japanese sweet potato. Omg. The skin is burnt. But that bitterness juxtaposed well with the sweet potato. So smoky. Never had a potato this good.
The sauce is good. Dont have that typical bitter blackpepper aftertaste.
The potato comes with yogurt dill sauce. Not good. This aint it. I donno what to suggest to improve. Like, start over? Get a tartar sauce base (mayo & pickle juice) then mix in dill & capers if wanna go extra
This lamb alone made this place a personal favorite that i will return many times after this.
Fried rice with harissa sauce
Crispy outside. Still goeeyy soft inside. The harissa taste like those tomato salsa u get from arab restaurant. Very refreshing sauce that cleans the palate.
Fried seabass
They pour hot oil on the skin. To fry the scales, so no need remove scales. It looks good. And taste good. Fresh. Not overcooked
It comes with sides like hash brown (can't see. It's under the fish), carrot & pumpkin puree & garlic chive sauce
All this, while good, are very creamy, buttery & the whole dish get so jelak & mual, quickly. I can't finish the whole meal. Too woozy from all the oil from deep fried hash brown & butter
The hash brown is an odd addition. A charcoal roasted potato would be a better pairing, since already grilling the fish on charcoal
Its a good fish dish brought down by the sides. If its paired with something light & refreshing, like lime chilli chimmichuri or lime chilli sauce from thai place/chicken rice place,
Something with acidity to lift up the dish, it would be amazing. As it is, this is disappointing
angus beef don
Rice bowl with charcoal grill beef. Nice. Love the meat. Exactly why i love this place. Their charcoal grill meat is unbeatable.
It's a good place that i wholeheartedly recommend, but definitely got roon to improved. So close...
Read moreOne of the worst experience I ever had! Ordered a pasta and angus beef rice, upon ordering I requested the beef to be well done as I am currently pregnant as well as 2 glasses of warm water and dessert after.
After waiting for more than 20mins, my husband asked if our warm water is ready as not even half the shop is full (not much crowd) and we saw tables came after us are already eating their meals.
A waiter handed us over empty glasses with still no water, he then proceed to ask if we have ordered anything. Nicely we replied yes and next 5 mins (still with no water given), the waitress who took our order came n asked do I mind half cooked beef as they have ran out of beef. I was abit confused with ran out of beef but offering me half cooked beef. I reminded her that I requested for well done because I am preg and I cannot take raw food. I then proceed to ask her have they start doing my pasta? She then left again to ask the kitchen.
She came back after awhile said they haven’t prepare anything, so I asked if they have forgotten my order? At that time she admitted that my order has been forgotten. So for the past 10mins, they could of just said they forgotten instead of offering half cooked beef rice and all the other shows the waitress had to put on. wasted nearly 40 minutes of our time when they could of just say they forgotten my order. Simple.
Now we are stuck with not much restaurant open at this hour. It’s not a deadly mistake but it is when the shop is not full house and workers do not admit to their mistake first thing they realised order has been missed out. So disappointed especially it’s our first visit during off peak hours and no solution given to us.
Hope the management can really look into this as this is not a new restaurant, simple mistakes like this...
