I have been acquainted with this restaurant since it opened its doors for business in 1985. The owner, a Malay family was from Muar Johor. The southern influences on the food then was apparent. Not sure whether the same family still owns the restaurant. It was during my student days. I was alternating with another Malay restaurant(Kelantanese) located at the back of this restaurant corner lot (Hatinie). At the time it was an an option of either Malay food (Azira) and Malay Kelantanese food ( Hatinie). It was really good and satisfying those days. The authenticity of the dishes and etc. Over the years Hatinie maintains its Kelantanese heritage in dishes but unfortunately not for Azira. Maybe due to over 80% workforce are Indonesians where one would tend to think that the Malay dishes served are adulterated to more Indonesian tasting dishes rather than authentic Malay. I am sorry to say the authenticity of the early days are all but gone. Food wise nothing outstanding really but the normal Malay dishes. Though the crowd is still there during breakfast and lunch, it would not be my prime choice unlike the early days. Competition amongst Malay restaurants in Shah Alam is stiff. Unless it can reinvent itself it will only be just another Malay restaurant serving staple but not outstanding...
Read moreMy first time here since they've renovated. The last time I came was 5 years ago. I still think Azira's got one of the best selections of Malay food. Not surprising to see the restaurant always bustling with people, even with more space after the renovation.
My faves here are the Mee Curry, Bihun Soto and Nasi Goreng Kampung. Still taste the same throughout the years. They have a lot of staff and they are usually accommodating. The system could be improved though, you pay before you eat but because you have to carry everything to the cashier, sometimes it's a hassle if you're buying a lot, especially with the crowd. One good thing is that they have a variety of food including Malay desserts, so even if you go there for a straight week, you won't get bored with the choices.
The only thing I hate about coming here is the parking. Azira is located within an old residential area, where the parking space is limited and the residents there do park their cars on each side of the road, making the small road even narrower.
If you're coming on the weekends, be prepared to...
Read moreThis is is good restaurant with vast choices of food. Used to buy here past 5 years, seen alot changes i this restaurant. First of all the food prices have to been gone up especially on their nasi ayam, which earlier was rm5.50 only then now rm7. I think it still ok as the portion was reasonable..
But recently change in their policy upsets me, before this customer can choose their dishes and put on their own, not too sure isit after the MCO the owner want to cover the loss,as now the dishes only will be put on by their staffs.. and the portions seems to be getting lesser and prices are same and i can say bit higher. Usually rice with chicken with a portion of vegetables, costs about rm6.90 .. today with the new policy, with a small piece of chicken and no vegetables taken, they charged me RM6.50, I dont think their portion of vegetables just cost rm0.40.
A small note to there owner, we can see your shop has grown so much, more customers now.. please dont be like any other typical businessman and start to cut cost and increase the price..it slowly makes your...
