My 1st visit to Serai :)
pros: the ambience was classy but not over the top, very warm and comfy i must say, makes you feel instantly relaxed and welcomed (kudos to the deco and the lighting i must say) -attentive waiters; very immaculately dressed, have a polished air around them and humble and polite (and damn they're good looking too! esp the interns who served us that day) -the service was quick and we did not wait long for our food to come -THE TOMYAM IS SUCH A BOMBBBBBBBB!
and i really really apprecite them asking and clarifying 1st whether I preferred the white tomyam or the red one and yes i chose the white/clear soup one and it really hits all the points !!! it's just perfect? perfection in a bowl??? i am kinda picky about my tomyam and quick to diss if its not up to my par but this, THIS IS REALLY SUPER UMAMI CRAZY REFRESHING AND SOOTHING FOR YOUR SOUL!! AAAHHH WILL REPEAT THIS AGAINNN FOR SUREEE!!!! -the lemon serai mint thingy fitz drink that they recommend is the perfect combo for that tangy spicy tomyam! nice!!!
cons: -one of the staff (in black shirt rambut curly and quite tall) that we signaled to come over (since we want the receipt and take away the super delicious drink) buat muka derk je eventho he clearly made eye contact with us, like omg whats with the attitude? i tak tau la dia baju hitam tu meaning dia manager ke head chef ke apa cleaner ke i mana la tau but even if its not your job to attend to us you boleh je signal to the other staff who SHOULD attend to us to attend to us, bukannnya buat muka ????
-the happy birthday song was UNNECESSARILY LOUD AND SOO DISTURBING. like if i was the person celebrating i would be sooo embarrassed? even I am feeling 2nd hand embarrassment from listening to it even when I'm sitting quite a few metres away LOL . it was so loud it feels like pasar malam and kills the charm and the vibe? I request for you all to kindly please tone it down a bit and idk perhaps it would be kinder to other patrons and more classy? even classier if its sung by your staff (human connection is way more memorable tak kisah la tak merdu ke apa i would always prefer this lagi sweet and touching tauu bila orang nyanyikan for you) rather than being played out loud super noisily from the speaker and menganggu other customers ???
thats all, all in all the bills are quite shocking (RM160+ for 2 pax) but it truly justifies the ambience (but please no more super loud birthday song ) and OHHHH, the dreamy, crazy tomyam. kudos to the chef. 10/10 will repeat and hopefully in a calmer...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Serai Setia City Mall, where I tried their Nasi Ulam Ayam Bakar, and it was an impressive meal from start to finish. The dish featured a generous portion of food, with a quarter piece of chicken thigh that was beautifully marinated and grilled to perfection. The chicken had a rich, aromatic, and slightly spicy flavor that complemented the charred edges, making each bite incredibly satisfying. The seasoning was on point, with just the right balance of spice and depth, giving the chicken an inviting and robust taste that was hard to resist.
The Nasi Ulam, a fragrant rice dish served alongside, was also well-prepared, with the right amount of herbs and spices mixed in to enhance the overall flavor profile. The meal was presented beautifully, with vibrant colors and an eye-catching arrangement that somehow made the dish even more appetizing. The presentation itself indirectly heightened my appetite, as everything looked so fresh and carefully crafted.
Overall, it was a fulfilling meal with generous portions that left me feeling satisfied but not overly stuffed. The grilled chicken, paired with the aromatic rice, made for a perfect combination that I would highly recommend. If you’re looking for a flavorful, hearty dish, the Nasi Ulam Ayam Bakar at Serai Setia City Mall is definitely...
Read moreI recently dined at Serai in Setia City Mall, and it was a pleasant, though it leans a bit on the pricey side. The ambiance is stylish and comfortable, with a mix of modern and cozy décor that makes it feel welcoming and perfect for a family gathering or a casual meal with friends.
The menu at Serai offers a good variety of dishes, from local Malaysian favorites to Western options, so there’s something for everyone. I tried the Serai Platter (consist - white rice, oxtail sambal, fried calamari, acar & fried chicken berempah) , which was flavorful and well-prepared. It was definitely a highlight and a must-try if you’re a fan of traditional Malay cuisine.
While the food was delicious and up to standard, the prices were slightly on the high side. It’s a bit pricey compared to other dining options in the area, so it might not be your go-to for everyday meals. However, given the quality and portion sizes, it’s reasonable for a special occasion or a treat.
The service was friendly and attentive, and our food arrived in a timely manner despite the busy environment. Overall, Serai is a great choice if you’re looking for a mix of local and Western flavors in a classy setting, though be prepared to spend a bit more for...
