Wanted to try for the very first time this Grand Harbour franchise restaurant. Since this branch was having Dimsum promo 50% on weekdays, we thought we will give this place a try. DISSATISFIED AND DISAPPOINTED TO THE MAX.
DaMen mall was deserted, many shops empty, escalator not switched on. Lift doors make loud clunking sound on opening and closing.
Restaurant had long queue but I was prepared for that. But I was not prepared for was their staff service and the food. Obviously not trained to cope with crowd, no experience in handling rush hour, and clearly not sincere in having the promotion because popular and basic dimsum like Siumai and hargow were sold out at 1-2pm. Mind you, their opening hours from 11am to 5pm for dimsum.
At the entrance, the lady in charge of the queue number was not there, then when she finally showed up, she just ignore us and didn't not even greet us or acknowledge our presence, merely giving the excuse she is ushering other customers to their tables first. Hello if you are in charge of queue numbers and the table arrangements, then stick to that. You can assign ushering duty to another staff. If you running around ushering, then who is mending the entrance?
Popular and staple dimsum ran out by 1-2pm, then we were downgraded from the more expensive siumai to the cheaper siumai after waiting 45mins for it, then only to be told sold out also. We put in the order 45mins ago...... On top of that, staffs gave contradicting info on what is 50% off (only dimsum, porridge, chee cheong fun). Everything else on the 2 pages A4 is not applicable for 50% discount.
Waiters ignore the basic table service of refiling empty teapots, pretending to not see that I left the cover open to signal that the pot is empty. By the way we were sitting next to the captain in charge of entering the orders, and where the waiters were walking up and down, shoving orders.
We ended up eating mainly different types of pau (flour made items) to fill our hungry bellies at 2.30pm.
At the entrance, while making credit card payment with one staff, I'm shocked to discover their payment cashier is hidden inside don't know what place, because I specifically asked for INVOICE/ RECEIPT, and I didn't want to merely accept Guest Check printout after making my payment. When I questioned them what is taking so long to print out receipt, then only they explained that this machine only prints Guest Check and cannot print receipts. That's why they are running up and down to get this COMPULSORY RECEIPT from another room inside the restaurant.
The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the restaurant is clean and the food (mainly those buns, Malay kuih, fried yam - got to try these only) was not too bad. Hardly got to eat any steamed dimsum because majority ran out
No hargow, no chee cheong fun, no siu long bao, no egg tarts, etc. (refer to photo on the non-available items at 2pm, when opening is until 5pm). Means this promo was not really legit to ensure it can serve the sudden increase in crowd. Means the staffs cannot cope with the increase in crowd. Promo was just to attract people to come, and to be disappointed by their lack of sincerity to give 50% discount promo, lack of preparation in quantity and manpower. Plus the grumpy staff at the entrance.
I personally won't go back to this branch. Maybe other branches isn't like this. Or maybe we were just back luck today. This 50% promo isn't worth the endless waiting. If you have run out of stuff, put up the menu and cross-off those not available so that customers don't have to keep queing. After customer placed order for 45mins, then only you come out you ran out of more food. Seriously, we are hungry and we are paying customers. You are not giving free food. This is not they way to treat customers. Very poor...
Read moreYesterday we went for the buffet dim sum . Food nice but the staffs attitude really horrible n rude . Especially the staffs with black uniform ( one fat lady n a thin n small size man)
First we ordered n they over served us by one big plate of fried lok Pak cake .. we checked with the black uniform thin man n his voice rude n said we ordered that big portion. We said we ordered 2 plates . He rised up his voice said right tis is 2 plates . Then I showed him the photo that we took earlier then he noticed was not 2 plate actually they served us more by one plate . N the portion really big that we can't finished .
2 we ordered Chicken feets ( Fong Chau) but didn't served. So we want to order again . But the Fat black uniform lady refused to order for us .. Said few time we must finish our food first . Can't take away the food all must dine in .. told us 4 times. I told her we knew .. once we on the table . You all already mentioned . Don't have to mention so many time .. we are adult we understand the rules n regulation . She don't have to keep mention again n again . But she still refused to order the Fung Chau for us . I thought tis is buffet system at the time was 130pm n we still got another hr to go ( buffet end 230pm) just because we still having the Lok Pau cake on the table .
So we waited a while n called the thin man .. he cames n rude again said we don't know how to order food . Never Odered so much food first must order one by one . Do U know it took us 45 mins to wait for the Fung Chau ? Do U order one by one I think for 2 n hrs buffet you can only order few plates only .. the serving of food not that fast . Because dim sum need to steam it .. we ordered all our food we finished didn't waste at all n of course we didn't take away . ( We know the rules)
The food yummy but the staffs attitude problem .. we r a group of senior citizens maybe we dressed not with high brand products .both of them look down n bullied us . Really disappointed with the bad attitude. Was a happy Sunday but really spoiled my Sunday .
I think I won't go back to this Damen branch Grand harbour will go other branches .
Hopefully the management will do some training on staff attitude. Service industry.. service n talking way are very important not to insult customers n be rude .
Buffet not worth order. More expensive.
7 thank you for the yummy dim sum. But staffs especially the staffs in black uniform always eyed on us think that we will tapau the food .. stressed to eat buffet here n not worth for the price too .
8 99% won't come back to Damen Grand Harbour.
9.Thank you f...
Read moreWhen Grand Harbour had an outlet in Mid Valley, I went to have dim sum & lunch with the family.. and actually thought that the food was good. Then it closed down (many years ago) and that was it.
This story started when I had to meet future-in-law (亲家) family for wedding proposal meeting of my little brother. With that, we had to show them courtesy and decided to treat them to a nice dinner.
◾Peking Duck - presented standing on a pole which the staff would then slice the crispy skin and wrapped in thin rice sheet, complete with hoisin sauce, cucumber and spring onion. ◾Baked Spanish Iberico Ribs baked to perfection that I couldn't resist eating more of the meat. ◾Double Combination of roasted meats - char siew and siew yuk were good. ◾sweet & sour pork - it has always been my little brother's favourite. The outer layer was still crispy with the lovely balanced sweet & sour sauce. ◾Claypot chicken with eggplants was served piping hot. ◾deep fried chicken with Szechuan peppercorn - an actual dish but more like a starter to me. Popped the meat into the mouth and chewed right away. ◾braised beancurd with luffa gourd ◾stir fried sang Mee with duck meat - the leftover duck meat was then chopped into small pieces and stir fried with the sang mee. ◾stir fried prawn balls with vegetables ◾stir fried mixed vegetables with macadamia nuts
The meeting went well ... the family agreed to our proposal & not long after, my brother got married....
