I've been here twice. I've tried the belacan fried rice, pad thai & fish cake over the 2 occasions. Unfortunately for me, I enjoyed none of them. Here are my comments with regards to the specific dishes:
Belacan fried rice - portion was too small. Fried rice was missing the belacan taste.
Fish cake - The fish cake is probably not what you expect. They didn't make their own fish cake by blending the fish etc. The fish cake was very rubbery. That's probably because it's one of those store-bought fish cake, which is mostly flour and will turn to a rubbery texture when deep-fried.
Pad Thai - the noodles were clumpy. Instead of being a nice balance of salty, sour & sweet; it was only salty - most likely from being doused in fish sauce. To boot, it failed on the authenticity front. It contained slices of fried fish, had green onion instead of chives, and missed the tofu.
Apart from the food, they seemed to prioritize 'style' over function in their choice of tableware. For instance, my pad thai came on a 'minimalist' plate that was definitely too small for the mount of noodles. I had to carefully maneuver my way through it so that I don't get them onto the table.
Conclusion: at most, edible food that can improve in taste and authenticity. So 2 stars for that. My experience may just be bad luck. After all, their menu was quite extensive and it could just be luck that I didn't order their...
Read moreWe took the Ramadan Set Menu for 2 pax and added some other dishes. The red tomyam seafood is, as usual, yummy and satisfying. We feel the stir-fried black pepper chicken lacked the fragrance and spiciness of black pepper. The mango salad is ok but does not have any dried shrimp or dried cuttlefish and seem to be vegetarian version. The red ruby dessert are sweet and nice with slivers of jackfruit and lots of red rubies chestnuts. The additional dishes we ordered are vegetable omelette and stir-fry kangkung. The omelette is crispy and was served on top of a bed of cabbage. We usually ordered the spicy belacan stir-fry kangkung which we always love. But today we ordered the non-spicy version which doesn't have the fragrance of belacan although the kangkung was tender and crunchy. My advice: stick to the spicy belacan version. Overall, still...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Aroi Thai Restaurant in Damen Mall, Subang, and I was thoroughly impressed. We tried the Omelette and the Deep Fried Fish with Pineapple Sweet and Sour Sauce, and both dishes were exceptional!
The omelette was fluffy, savory, and perfectly seasoned—simple yet delicious. The Deep Fried Fish was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and the Pineapple Sweet and Sour Sauce was the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory. The combination was truly mouthwatering and a great representation of authentic Thai flavors.
The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the service was friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for a top notch Thai meal in Subang, Aroi Thai is definitely worth a visit. Can’t...
