5/6/25 @ 3pm? Not crowded, perfect time. Delicious dhall and chicken curry. Colourful beetroot, spicy bitter gourd, cabbage, lentils. Poppadum nice and crunchy. interesting textures, lovely ! Banana leaf rice set was already perfect on its own. RM9. Chicken varuval RM8, strong tasting, perhaps better with a roti. Was mostly chicken neck and bones. Next time, will order freshly fried chicken or fish to accompany the banana leaf rice.
1/4/25 Came back and had a good experience! Sat inside the darkish air con room, clothes smelled of oil later but had a comfortable lunch in the crazy hot afternoon. Banana leaf rice RM9, this time around no issues. Spicy curried bitter gourd, a potato dhall spinach and stir fried cabbage. Poppadum crunchy, freshly fried like the delicious Ikan bulus at RM5 each, fresh, light and crispy. Total bill about RM35 for 2, very filling. On the way out, stopped to get the rose pink coconut candy at RM3 for 4 sweet pieces. Not too dry, very nice. Will continue to come early in the day.

The last recent visit was sadly disappointing. Wanted to confirm the current pricing for banana leaf rice so asked the staff who attended our table. He quoted us a wrong lower pricing which we only discovered later was the price for a vegetarian set but the set served, came with a chicken dish so of course the price is higher. There is definitely a communication breakdown as he doesn't seem to understand Malay or English so we just accepted it, didn't complain. The chicken was mainly bones, one veg dish was no longer fresh and tasted off. When asked for a refill of rice and veg, to my surprise, he shook his head, then disappeared to the back of the shop.I needed to stand up and walk up to other staff to ask whether the rice is indeed refillable....or is it suddenly not? The younger staff is much nicer and proceeds to ladle rice and a potato dish unto the banana leaf, (which wasn't even offered by the first man). We were still eating, and they started sweeping the floor next to us. Never felt so unwelcome before. Sad cos many members of my family have been eating here all...
Read moreBeen on the look out for a really good "Masala Tea". The search today took me to a place in USJ4 called "Moorthy's Mathal". My very first visit.
The shop front was not very impressive. The sitting arrangement was okay with an air conditioned section that is pleasantly set up.
I ordered a "Masala Tea" and a "Normal Tea". The tea served does not have the impressive look. I didn't really expect much either.
But when the cup of Masala Tea touched my tender lips, wow! the masala concoction was more than okay. I relished the whole cup thoroughly. The normal tea was pretty good too.
On my way out I had a chat with the boss that I cannot seem to find the tea I have tasted in India. He said quite difficult but was convinced his Masala Tea is very up to the mark and convinced me to try another cup.
I said I did but all the same he insisted that I share another cup with him as he is convinced that he served the best tea.
And so, I shared another cup of Masala Tea with the boss. I think he is the boss. He dressed like one. He walks and talk like one. And he specially ordered the tea master to brew the tea and what more can I say ... it's good to the last drop!
Verdict : Bolih Kembali. And I shall definitely return to try the food. It looks delicious. Sooner is better than later. GC 💥 An update : I am now back to Moorthy Mathai in USJ4, but this time not just to savour again the Masala Tea but to try the food.
I met again the man who walks with the jaunty gait.
To confirm that he is the boss, I asked, may I know your name? I am Moorthy he whispered humbly. So, you are the boss? He nodded with a whimsical smile.
Without a doubt the "fried chicken" is undeniably tasty. Very crispy and very well seasoned. Sure got that oomph and most important the portion is as respectable as the bite!
As for the "fried fish" as I am a fish lover, I must say it met my expectation. But it still is missing the magic of being fleshy and succulent on the inside though it's crispy on the outside. Seasoning was done alright and the portion is large enough. In many eatery places the portion is miniscule and could easily play hide and seek with you.
I enjoyed my tea. And I had to have another to...
Read moreFood remains good and to my liking. The only reason for the low ratings is that staff's attitude is significantly poor. Example when one of the waiter (plump guy) was serving us side dishes, I asked him twice about what veg it was but he literally ignored me and just dump the veg and moved on to the next table. This is plain rude. Second incident was i ordered roti telur and the old man (assuming was the boss) went to the roti canai kitchen and placed my order which the staff acknowledged my order (i knew all this as i followed the old man all the way to the kitchen). To my horror 15 mins later when i asked where is my order and the staff just said no more. This is absurd and there was no courtesy to even notify me. He just laugh it off. 3rd incident was that i had to walk to the drinks counter to order my drinks (as no one seem to be bothered in taking orders) and when i placed the order, the staff was literally again emotionless. I thought maybe he didnt hear me so I repeated again but he remains the same. Until i raised my voice further if he understood my order and he just looked at me for few seconds and ignored me.
Hate to say this but your staffs needs to be given some common training in servicing customers and be more attentive. Not expecting sky high services but at least...
