after trying more than half of the stalls here, i think it's time for me to write some review:
"super early morning" nyonya style nasi lemak - the aunty and uncle would start their stall at 7am, if anyone reach there at 8am(or sometimes even a bit earlier like 10mins to 8am), very likely aunty will offer you the last scoop of sambal gravy with plain rice(together with bilis and kacang of course). After few rounds of patron(i have to admit the simple taste quite to my liking) and scarifying some sleep of mine, i come to conclusion, i think they don't cook a lot. anyway i like the sambal petai and nyonya style ikan kembong. *their bihun also not bad.
nyonya kuih/klang famous pao - not cheap for the small piece of kuih, but the taste just hit the perfect note(which is totally ok for me rather than cheaper kuih else where with much bigger size but bland taste). take their kuih talam for example, it has the right amount of flavor of coconut milk and pandan leaves. and for those who are fan of famous Klang pao, you could conveniently get it here.
Penang mamak mee goreng - totally sure this guy is from penang as he can speak some hokkien. this brings back some memories for me, about 20 years ago when i first came to KL, that i ordered mee goreng at one of those mamak stalls, and my first taste of KL mamak mee goreng...hell no!!! no way this is mamak mee goreng! i was in total shock and my tears nearly came out because of disappointment. ok now back to this stall mamak mee goreng, while i was enjoying every single bite of their mee goreng, oh my oh my, i close my eyes, happiness can be so simple sometime, this is absolute satisfaction!
chicken/roasted pork/bbq pork rice - you can tell how serious the owner treat the food that he cooked, that's why his confidence. nicely cooked rice with good aroma, one of the best char siew(nothing less than those famous "glass char siew" in town) i ever had in recent years, steam chicken also nicely done with the right tenderness and flavor.
"big head prawn" fried noodle/sang har noodle - other than this signature dish, they also serves other tai chao stuff like Cantonese fried kuey teaw/noodle. I have to admit i have never tried their signature dish yet, but i have had their cantonese style fried noodle. one thing is i really respect how focus the owner is when he is frying the noodles, you can tell the experience and "kungfu" that he has accumulated through out the years, followed by the good charcoal aroma(Wok Hei) that comes along. Taste wise, not my most favorite among "tai chao" noodles , somehow i find some additional hint of flavor that i like is not in the gravy(only for my own sake, the waiting line can be quite long during lunch time)
CEO nasi kandar - i simply call it CEO nasi kandar(hope the owner doesn't mind) simply because the owner always looked very tidy and you can tell he is very passion in handling his business with good service. of course fried chicken is famous among the customers, personally i find the curry fish/fish head(ikan tenggiri, correct me if i'm wrong) is not bad, and his curry sotong is tasty(many curry sotong out there are quite bland if you know what...
Oct 2024: kopi c kosong ping (see photo) at RM4. When the gomen play hard on sugar intake, this shop has steadily increases drink prices for those non-sugar drinks. SS15 shops still selling same type of drink at RM3.40. Bravo Apollos, you ruined your own shop!
July 2023: Becareful when ordering mee goreng ala Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng. Be SPECIFIC when order: say Mee Goreng Biasa Tak Nak Sotong or tak nak whatsoever, if you only want to eat normal mee goreng. Not saying a word, he will cook mee goreng sotong and charge you absorbent price. Its like you order a chicken rice, he will give drumstick chicken rice or order a beer he will give guinness. So much about a crook Penang lang trying to cheat KL lang.
Update Feb 2023: Drinks and food prices has been increased. Nasi kandar easily above RM13 depending on which meat you take, soy milk at RM3.50, fruit juices RM5.50, teh ping RM3.80.
Agreed with another reviewer that the price has gone up and will never come down. Brace for the impact.
Update 6 June 2022: Stall: Mee Goreng Penang (claimed from whatever road in Penang) I asked for mee goreng biasa takeaway but I was given mee goreng sotong. Was given in less than 2 minutes after ordered. Suspect already fried for someone else that is why it was so quick. Damage: RM9. Total SCAM. Now realised that if you speak Hokkien, he will cook with more aroma 🫣
2019: Food: Aplenty of hawker food such as chicken rice, Klang pau, nasi briani (served by chinese), char kuey teow (not recommended), yong tau foo (not recommended), prawn noodle, fish paste and bitter gourd noodle, pork noodle (cooked by foreigner), wantanmee, beef horfun and big prawn noodle (recommended), pan mee and yee mee. Drinks include coffee tea and juices. Night time they serve chicken rice, tai chow. Ambience: Non airconditioned, baby chair is available Price: MYR6 onwards (price has gone up multiple times since 2023) Service: Go to the stall to order, then pay upon food is served at the table. Overall: It is forever hot there, no matter how the owner tried to pacify the hot condition. Otherwise, it is a good place for...
Read moreAmple free parking in front of the row of shops. I came to this coffee shop as it is near my working place, good Hawker food and free parking under shady trees. My favourite stall Bangkok Lane mee goreng. Standard same as what you get in Penang. The cook and owner, is a family member of the famous shop in Penang. Taste sweet and fragrant as the sauce wrap around each strand of noddles. I would suggest mee goreng lover to give it a try. Other tasty Hawker stall are Nasi Kandar, Prawn mee and the Tai chow famous for big prawn friend noddles. The sign read the cook is a family member of the famous Soo Kee in Imbi KL. The claypot chicken which is also my favourite had shifted to some where far away. The chicken and char Siew stall that serve marvelous meat had shifted a few doors away and now have the whole shop for themself. Quality is maintain but they had raise their prices. Maybe need to cover the rental of a sho as compare to renting a stall previously. Came back here for a plate of wat tan hor RM10 and a glass of teh ping RM 3.70 Price shoot up. Frightening. Blame CNY? Same old issue. Hawker food price goes up will never ever come down. Today prawn mee. Nice. RM8.50 Came back order lor mee. Enough starchy but too much star anise caused it to become bitter to taste. Would not recommend. Better stick...
