Alright, first off, parking. If you don't want to cross the busy road you'll need to follow the arrows of a nearby Jing Thai restaurant (by the roadsign) for their parking space, but it's not terribly far. There seems to be quite a lot of stray dogs around though and it's quite smelly.
Second, the wait. There's people queueing up and the employees will come to you with menu and iPads for ordering foods beforehand, but the wait is quite short at just a few minutes (albeit possibly anedoctal). Likewise for the food.
Third, the environment. The Chinese name of the restaurant is trans-literally "iron skin house", the "iron skin" most likely referring to the metal roof sheets above the restaurant (I don't see any though) which is rather common nowadays in rural Malaysia, and it does reflect the overall environment.
The wall paintings reflect an 80's shophouse, 80's classical Chinese music, warm and cozy feeling enhanced by the orange lights in the evening. All of this despite it being located right besides a busy road with tons of newer shophouses at the opposite.
I'd recommend sitting at the "balcony"/edge seats for a better experience.
Lastly, food. Their specialities seem to be nasi lemak and pan mee, but as a pan mee lover i obviously went for tbe latter.
Their (today's special IIRC) herbal tea is pretty refreshing, in my case they seemed to add lemongrass in it too but it's surprising not that strong!
Their chilli pan mee is just fantastic; you can choose three different width of the noodles (in my case, 粗/thick), it comes with a bowl of soup if you want soupy noodles. You just pour out the chilli into the bowl, squeeze the lime into it, then you mix everything together, voila! Smooth, delicious noodles made even better with egg yolk. The only (minor) inconvenience is that the food portion looks rather small, but I felt surprisingly full after finishing it. I suppose the placebo effect of using smaller (in appearance) bowls/plates do help control the portion you eat.
I also ordered their cendol, the gula Melaka/ice mix and adzuki beans are ok (the latter seems to be canned which is quite common among cendol sellers), but their cendol itself tastes... really questionable. This is the main reason why I rated it 4 stars, I recommend against ordering their cendol, cause while eating I discovered there's a few tiny black bits on the ice too (definitely not insects and not enough to get completely disgusted but you get the idea).
Overall though, asides from the parking the environment is great, and the main course (being pan mee) is really good. I recommend visiting this place.
For Muslims who do follow the halal certification, this restaurant is technically NOT HALAL due to pork (charsiu rice seems to be their speciality as well, and as always the minced meat in pan mee is pork), but there's chicken dishes in their menu, they even explicitly called their chicken drumstick rice "BIG" in the name. Besides, there's always nasi lemak! (Provided you don't have severe seafood allergies and the possibility of belacan inside...
Read moreA Kopitiam that stay true to its concept with build up & decors that resembles old school Kopitiam, same goes with plates, cups and bowls used. Their Nasi Lemak is tasty, rice has santan fragrance, chicken is crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside, condiments are well prepared with sufficient cucumbers and the sambal has the right flavour without being too spicy (need slightly more sambal), which is an improvement versus previously. Pan Mee soup has a solid noodle texture & taste is average. Grill Chicken Chop has crispy fries, acceptable coleslaw & tasty brown sauce. Good thing here is oil control, fries & fried chicken is not served soaked with oil on your plate, a big plus point (they drained or soaked the oil first). ABC is tasty as well but the ice was just too coarse. They don't accept Credit Card, they accept Cash or Touch n Go eWallet. There are baby chairs here. It is indoor seating however there are open areas hence it's a combination of air-con and outside air hence some seating area you will feel warm or hot. Expect a long queue during lunch especially in the weekend. There are sufficient parking...
Read moreThe business hour has finally updated to include morning session. And I went on Sunday, at 11.30am. The parking space are ample, so don't need to worry.
But please make sure to come early if you don't like to queue. They will get your orders before allocating seats to you (if you're on the queue list). The waiting time is quite short though, around 20 minutes. But the serving speed can be improved further.
The food we ordered are signature nasi lemak with fried chicken, chilli pan mee and Hainamese chicken chop. Beverages ordered are loh hon guo and iced kopi.
Fried chicken is definitely a must to order, the size was big the price is affordable the taste was excellent. Sambal comes with nasi lemak was fragrant enough to attract me for second visit. I added rm2 for extra chilli for the panmee, worth it - the portion is triple of the original size they served.
Iced kopi was just okay, nothing impressed.
Will recommend to anyone who likes kopitiam style...
