Café Riche — Restaurant in Birgu

Extremely disappointed in service, wish there was possibility of zero stars. We came at 10am on Sunday especially dedicating sufficient amount of time for the visit. The order was placed couple minutes later, however even after 30 minutes passed we didn’t even have drinks and had to remind about that. Drinks arrived after the reminder. Another 30 minutes passed and no food. This is when we were already getting nervous. As we do understand they are busy, but everyone who was around us when we came in, already changed, as well as couple people who came after. After several reminders food finally arrived at 11:08. By food I mean the first ordered plate that was missing the ingredients. Couple minutes later arrived finally the rest (and mashroom that were missing in the first plate) where one of the orders was again with mistakes. To make this service even more disappointing, the last came claiming that in their system order was placed at 10:30, so basically saying that we are liars and not even assuming that their waiter simply didn’t put an order in system in time!!! We have little baby with a strict regime, so we are always aware of what time it is, and planning everything around it - so we know what time we did order, but in this place customer is not only not always right, but actually fully wrong. Crazy waiting time, several reminder, order coming with mistakes and not all together and at the end of the day blaming that we placed it 30 minutes later than we actually did. Never again. Cafe Riche has been on my list for a while, and finally we made our way to the South of Malta for a family fun day and had a quick lunch here. The prices are really good, and the food is fresh. In terms of portions, they are not large but for the prices you pay are more than reasonable. Think of "snack bar" food, but served in a gorgeous setting. Limited spaces inside, but I wouldnt want to sit there unless it is raining to be fair! The service was great, the waiters super attentive and always with a smile. The only downside is that only one highchair is available and when we were there, it was in use. So our daughter could not sit with us and eat at the table for a long time. Great cafe, good Portion sizes. The girl who served us was very friendly and gave us lots of advice on the local area, could do with Aircon but there are fans.

There's indoor and outdoor seating available although at 1pm it was a little hot to sit outside!

The inside is a little dated but quite quirky with agricultural tools on the walls and lots of equestrian tools and equipment dotted all over the place.

They did offer a few cocktails too!

The menu was a fair size with enough choice, overall it was a pleasant experience.

We did see some kind of outside courtyard with a stage which looked great, I can imagine some great parties...
