I am not sure whether this museum is actually reopened yet. It certainly is not completely so. I can therefore only comment on the few galleries I accessed. The star rating is for today. It will certainly be better.
The exterior of the building is dramatic and the setting by the Vittoriosa harbouring charming. So it is a shock to get 'industrial chic' inside. The style is of a high level of interpretation and less exhibits. I found the emphasis rather coy about 2 world wars fought by hundreds of ships, with boring social stuff like trade union disputes in the docks instead! However, it is not a Naval Museum, and I particularly accept that it is not a museum of the Royal Navy.

Read moreThe maritime museum is located at the waterfront across from Grand harbour and has a rich collection in regards to Malta's seafaring history. Whilst there are some interactive elements, most of the museum is traditional and has a lots of artefacts and memorabilia as well as models and replicas. It is a nice rainy day museum where you can spend an hour or two if the weather is not in your favour. The combination ticket with Fort St. Angelo and the Inquisitors Palace is great value and will get you going a whole day. You get here easily from Valletta by taking the lift from the Upper Barrakka Gardens and the ferry across which is only €1.50. There is a room on the ground floor that is dedicated to steam and motorships which is quite...
Read moreSeriously not worth a visit at all. Beautiful building but the whole thing is just not finished. There is scaffolding everywhere and roped off staircases which look very dangerous. Very poor lighting makes this place an accident waiting to happen. No signs mass confusion - no one knows where they should go. Cinema cloaked in darkness through a black curtain with exit door saying danger!! The way through museum was another unmarked black construction curtain. No cafe just a coffee machine, about six items in gift shop - and first floor and roof not open to public. You might as well not have bothered if you are going to be a museum it has to be ready, interesting and...
