I have waited a couple days to write my review in order to remove emotion from it.
As a customer I for one don't appreciate being threatened by a staff member over a simple misunderstanding...add in he threatened a 66 year old man that uses 2 walking sticks to move around and a 67 year old lady, this particular waiter really needs to attend anger management classes. The exact words used were "I'm not afraid of the three of you" with a physical gesture removing any doubt about what was meant.
Myself and another customer tried to de-escalate the situation but this waiter wanted to continue making a big deal which ultimately was about swapping an unopened can of soft drink for different drink.
I will admit the owner did try and calm the situation but it was too heated by that stage and the troublesome waiter was standing next to him at our table. This had nil effect, the owner really needed to make sure the waiter was away from us and he needed to have a quiet word with him in the kitchen.
When a 4th member of our travelling party turned up and went to the counter in order to pay for the meal he was even treated by contempt by the person behind the counter, both people of which had nothing to do with the blown out of proportion confrontation.
We are a travelling group of 9 people that are eating out at least once per day and have an event of 41 people that we are planning. We were testing out this place to see if we would book it for our event but due to the attitude of some of the staff we have now booked our €2,000+ event elsewhere and have not returned for coffee or meals.
On a personal note regarding the food, I ordered a burger which was actually really disappointing. The burger was a meat Pattie on a bun with lettuce as a side. I would have expected better but I 'constructed' my own burger. Chips didn't come with any salt on it and there was no salt in the shaker nor any pepper in the pepper one. I was too afraid to ask the wait staff for a new salt shaker or sauce of any sort.
There are other cafes in Birgu Centre that I have now eaten and had coffees at, I would recommend any of them...
Read moreNestled in the heart of Birgu which is one of the Three Cities on a peninsula across from Valletta accessible via a short 2 Euro ferry ride lies BeBirgu Restaurant. It gets good reviews on Google (Yelp doesn't seem very popular in Malta) so we walked up into a major street reconstruction project which was dusty and noisy and a bit off-setting. As we began to walk by the restaurant thinking we would head elsewhere, we were greeted by a man who apologized for the construction (apparently it has been going on a while…) and said come take a look, explaining the restaurant was in one of the oldest houses in Birgu. We stepped into the beautiful, old-school bar and then peaked at the courtyard and were sold on lunch!
BeBirgu offers an exceptional dining experience that combines a prime location, impeccable service, and mouthwatering cuisine. The restaurant's charming ambiance, set against the backdrop of historic architecture, creates a perfect setting for a memorable meal.
From the moment we arrived, the staff at BeBirgu made us feel incredibly welcome. Their attentive and friendly service added a personal touch to our dining experience, making it truly special. The waitstaff were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations for both food and wine.
The food at BeBirgu is nothing short of spectacular. Each dish is crafted with care and bursting with flavor. We particularly enjoyed the fresh seafood (I had a fantastic grilled Red Snapper), the Rolled & Stuffed Chicken that my wife had and the delectable pasta dishes. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were perfectly balanced, showcasing the best of Maltese cuisine.
Whether you're a local or a visitor, BeBirgu is a must-visit. The combination of its great location, wonderful service, and delicious food makes it a standout choice for anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic...
Read moreTerrible service – avoid this place! I used to consider this restaurant the best in Birgu, but after my recent visit, my opinion has completely changed. We booked a table for 10 friends for a get-together. At the time of booking, there were no mentions of any time limits, minimum spend requirements, or any other conditions.
However, just one hour after our arrival, the waiter — without even addressing the person whose name was on the reservation — approached one of the guests and asked that our entire group vacate the table within 30 minutes.
During that same 30-minute window, he refused to take an order from a pregnant guest, claiming that the kitchen was closing (at 6:30 PM!), and then immediately turned to the next table to take their main course order. When the pregnant guest asked why he was serving others but refusing her, the waiter failed to give any logical explanation.
Throughout our time there, we behaved respectfully and received no complaints from the staff. However, the waiter’s behavior made it clear that he simply did not want to overexert himself and preferred to work in a relaxed mode, even if it meant compromising service quality. To top it off, while walking past my chair, he bumped into my tote bag, which fell, breaking the glass in a photo frame inside. There was no apology, nor any attempt to make things right.
Conclusion: The staff is unprofessional, unethical, and outright lazy. The atmosphere of the evening was completely ruined. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this...
