We were looking forward to a great steak. We started with cocktails ( VERY expensive at 9 euros each) and a shared liver pate which was ok. My wife’s fillet was very good but my Tagliata wasn’t. The menu listed a 350grm tagliata. When it was served it was 6 thin slices of cold meat in a cold rectangular plate, hiding under cold rucola and some Parmesan shavings. I asked that it be changed and heated . What came back was a slightly warmer round plate with a bit more meat. Honestly we were disappointed. A steak house SHOULD KNOW BETTER. You should NEVER serve meat in cold plates!! You need to time meals so that the 2 dishes are prepared simultaneously and are it at the table HOT. The sauces were good as were the sautéed mushrooms and the mashed potatoes were good but could have been warmer. The atmosphere was ok and service was adequate. Speaking generally the staff really need some training and the service needs polish. As we were seated near the grill we noticed that staff were at the cooks counter chatting with each other which is never a good sign. The meal cost 105 euros and we left a 10 euro tip which we hope encourages the staff to be better. Management you need to train your staff better and be try to your menu. Clients should feel they got a bit more than was ordered not a bit less. We will give the place another shot and hope we leave pleasantly surprised.

After a hard days sunbathing, we headed to the Porterhouse steak restaurant. No reservation required, and we were greeted by Victor who showed us to our table. His service was prompt, courteous, pleasant and provided us with an honest assessment that the BBQ platter would certainly be ample for two people. That honesty goes a long way in my book. The dish was served in good time with the food served exactly as it was described in the menu. A nice touch was the potato and sweet potato mix. The ribs covered in a very nice bbq sauce. Add in the spicy chicken wings and well you have a really nice dining experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner, and have organised a return visit to try the signature Porterhouse steak. The lowdown on that to follow. Rob

We visited Porterhouse Steakhouse in Mellieħa on the 5th of October. The place looked promising and the atmosphere was pleasant. The steak itself was fine — good flavour, but nothing outstanding for the price. Compared to other restaurants in the area, it felt a bit expensive for what you get. The service was polite and they tried to do their best, but the overall experience was somewhat average. At the end of the meal, the staff asked if everything was fine and mentioned that guests could get a 10% discount next time if they left a review on TripAdvisor. I found that a bit unusual, as it made me wonder how authentic the overall rating might be. Overall, an average experience – not bad, but not one I would rush to repeat.

We chose this restaurant off good reviews… We phoned, and spoke to someone over the phone and made a reservation only to arrive at the restaurant and them having no note of the reservation. We let it slide, as they still were able to give us a table. We were sat down with food menus and no drinks menu, again we let it slide and just ordered drinks off our own back. One drink arrived, we questioned where the other one was as they were taking other peoples drinks orders with no bar staff… 40 minutes later the other drink arrived. After a few hiccups at the start, we made our food order thinking things could only get better. Whilst trying to enjoy our evening the air conditioning vent in the ceiling starts pouring out water all over myself and another couple of guests, to the point where we had to stand up and move ourselves. This obviously wasn’t the first time it had happened as one of the waiters said ‘one second it will stop’! no apology from staff or offer to move us to a different table. Our starters came out, one good thing i will say is they are generous with their food portions, however quality not so good unfortunately. My starter was okay, my partner got given the completely wrong order and it was excused with ‘OH this is complementary as the bone marrow takes a while to cook’. After our starters, another waitress came over and asked if we’d ordered mains, there’s clearly no communication in this place. At this point, the air con had leaked on us again. The bone marrow came out, it was like stodgy pork belly fat intertwined with a dog treat. At this point, we got up and politely explained the issues and decided to leave before mains. The food and service we received was more than disappointing. The waiter, didn’t seem very bothered in the slightest and let us leave without any further conversation, just “sorry”. We are not ones to complain or leave bad reviews, but this had to be reviewed. Many other restaurants in this area that could choose from and not be...

We booked a table for four on Sat evening at 7.15pm the restaurant was only half full. The waitress that served us was very helpful. Unfortunately we had to ask several times for our mains to come out & my partners steak was over done which we sent back. The Manager then promptly returned with the steak dish & tried to suggest that my partner had made a mistake & that the lighting was to low for her to see that the steak was not overdone, this came across as very patronising really. So he finally agreed to get another steak main on ordered for us to be done in "7 minutes", 20 minutes later & after asking again a couple of times where the steak was we were told it was on its way. Another 5 mins later still no steak so we then asked to cancel it as to be honest we had had enough at this point. Another Two minutes later the Manager appears at the table with the steak & tried to convince my partner to take the steak & he would take it off the bill at which point she said again that she had had enough & no she didnt want it. We were offered free drinks & desserts which we politely refused & asked for the bill. So you guessed it 5 mins later we had to walk to the bar on the way out to pay as we just wanted to leave. The Manager did take money off the bill for us & he did apologise which we appreciated but it just felt like we had to continuously ask for things that they should have gone out of there way to resolve quickly. Food is nice & the waitress was very apologetic, but it was all very slow coming out of the kitchen. 2 hrs 45 mins for two starters & three mains is not great, sorry but we won't...

I dined here with my wife this evening. Anyway we are greeted by a gentleman and informed him that we had a reservation. He proceeded to show us to our table, probably the worst or second worst in the restaurant. My wife and looked on in amusement as we were sure he thought he was working in a 3 star Michelin restaurant. We were seated ordered pre dinner drinks and were provided with menus, their condition worthy of a local take away Chinese restaurant. Shortly after our steaks and a bottle of wine. We ordered one of the more expensive wines at 49 euro a bottle. The fanfare with which the bottle was presented opened poured and decanted we thought we’d ordered a bottle of 1945 Latour. We had to pinch ourselves to stop laughing!!! Once decanted and the first glass poured we had to pour our wine ourselves for the rest of the evening. The steaks… most amusing. We both ordered grain fed steaks. My wife medium which it was and mine medium rare which was rare. Unbeknown to them we are Australian and our families grow beef. The steaks were ok but definitely not grain fed or from Uruguay and Argentina as per the menu. They lacked the depth of flavour. My wife and I couldn’t stop laughing at how these little people from the backwater of Malta thought they were world class… hahaha Please look at the picture of what they brought to the table as English Mustard… non descript tasteless mayonnaise… hahaha also look at the amount of fat and gristle on my steak… 300g with 80g fat and gristle. Lovely people but totally clueless. My wife and I had a...
