We had dinner at Luca on October 16th. Our previous experience at the restaurant in May was fabulous. The time was terrible. The outside dining was uncomfortable as the heat and humidity made dining outside uncomfortable. The hostess brought us to a nice table inside and what a mistake. There were a few children in the restaurant and with the acoustics in the restaurant you couldn’t hear yourself think! A few other couples left because of the noise. The food which had been so good in May was pedestrian at best. We had their version of a tomato and burrata salad had all the tomatoes chopped up like a salsa and two halves of a cherry tomato. One of the worst renditions of that salad I have ever experienced. My wife had the stuffed raviolis and they were inedible, under cooked (not al dente) and hard and a tomato sauce that tasted like it came from a can. My gnocchi and shrimp dish was good but the service and atmosphere made enjoying my meal impossible. The manager Daniel came to our table and we expressed our concerns, instead of apologizing for the dinners shortcoming he suggested next time we try a different restaurant in the Grand Velas resort. Lucca is a very classy place, service was very friendly. we opted for seating out in their large patio. did not have much view as it was night time. service was prompt and food was very good. they also sang for a few guests celebrating birthdays. the only one thing that derailed the special occasion were the lizards in the corner of the patio area. our table was very close.
