La Escondida Puerto Nuevo. Restaurante Bar — Restaurant in Baja California

Old world restaurant... The service was good and fast, but the food itself lacked. 2 stars for atmosphere because the building appears to be an original to Puerto Nuevo and has a balcony that overlooks the market and ocean, but appears that it has not been updated in decades.

Otherwise, as for the food, They recommended the lobster special, but I ordered fish tacos. I wanted grilled, but they only had battered. When It arrived, the corn tortilla was cold, and there was more batter than fish when I bit into the taco. If the batter was crispy throughout and/or it was a flour tortilla It may have elevated the plate's profile. Also ordered some Chilaquiles, but those also lacked the crispness too and flavor. On the plus side, the Large Shrimp cocktail and the margarita were on par with what we expected in terms of size and flavor.

Let's start with the food. We had the combination platter, lobster, shrimp, and fish. You can choose to have your shrimp and fish prepared to your liking. I had breaded (empanizados). It was like a panko type of breading, which was crunchy but very dry. This combo plate also comes with a complimentary margarita, I had it on the rocks. Rice, beans, homemade tortillas, guacamole, and chips/salsa for $26 USD. I honestly enjoyed the homemade flour tortillas, guacamole, and beans the most.

The service was great, very fast, and attentive. Our server made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was nice. We ate outside on the balcony. We could see the ocean, people shopping the mercado, and Mariachis playing. Downfall was all the solicitors coming to our table interrupting our meal every 5 minutes and the shady people outside price gouging free...

We eat At this restaurant 9 times out of 10 when I go to eat in Porto Nuevo this is my first choice.

there is another Fancy Nancy place to eat at the opposite end of the location in the cul-de-sac however it is not NEARLY as good, especially the seafood Lobster does not compare. if you're looking for atmosphere to feel comfortable as though you are in the US go to the other restaurant but if you're looking for personable waiters, waitresses a personable owner, good Beans & Rice, FRESSH tortillas, the ocean right outside your seat, NO MATTER WERE U SIT.
