The first time I went here was in the 80s. The last time I had been was in 2003. Reset. I went today. And, it was pure nostalgia, exactly as amazing and savory as I remember. They say smell is the sense closest tied to memory -- and yes, a large portion of what you "taste" is actually smell. I've been craving this place for a long(ostino) time and finally made it back.
So first of all -- go here. Don't go to the others. This is the original. We were really lucky, going on a Friday for lunch, before the huge rush on a long Holiday weekend (Labor Day). We literally sat right down.
We ordered quickly, one lobster special each in our party, and a sangria (soda). Was a bit surprised to see they moved from Señorial to Peñafiel -- but, I never had this brand, and I think I might like it better.
The chips and pico are amazing while you wait. But then...
The main event. AMAZING Baja style spiny lobster. The best of the best. So succulent and delicious. Paired with all the complements you may want, though I personally like it plain while hot, ripping off some bites of bean covered, hot fresh hand made flour tortillas. I'm pretty sure this is heaven.
I'm shocked to have read some reviews not as gushing as my own. I've been here probably 10 times in my life and it's been consistent and honestly amazingly priced for what you get. I have never strayed from lobster here. Why would you? 😁 While I'm sure some will disagree, I find Baja lobster to be so much better than Maine. And the sides here are to die for.
Came in about $40 per person. In Cancun, Caribbean lobster is gonna run you at least $20 more for a lot less overall.
One of the funnest (yeah, it's a word) things is this time I had a camera. So here you go!!!
Enjoy this...
Read moreMy First Visit here! Also my last. This is my 5th overall visit to a restaurant in Puerto Nuevo!
We got the Large Lobsters. Good size! Just a tad overcooked but good. The tortillas were good but not as big as some other places and not Hot just warm.
Chips and salsa were good! Chips were similar to home made style but not greasy. Good in my opinion.
Rice was ehh. Beans were decent, no issues there and they were hot. Butter was good. Limes were large.
Ordered the carneasada quesadilla for the kids. It was a Fail! Meat flavor was off, not tender, and it was luke warm when we got it. Disappointing. Not as big as I expected for 8 dollars plus. Better at any taqueria.
We ordered the Guacamole because none comes with the meal. No sour cream either. This is extra, but there were a ton of tomatoes in it, just way to much trying to stretch it!
Not worth it to me! 2 large lobsters $30 each 1 quesadilla con carne 2 coke's 2 Jamaica 1guacamole 82$ total
I will stick with Villa Ortega's on the Corner with the Ocean View! Much more worth it!!! Food is OK but I expected better and I have had much better! Not even close to my past visits at Villa Ortegas. I hope they have not declined as well. Been over a year since...
Read moreI visited this place thinking it was going to be good based on the reviews. I recommend you guys try other places. I’ll begin talking about the chips and the salsa they serve as soon as you get there, they were nasty. Second the waiter got upset because my friend requested a new plate since the one she got had a hair. The lobster was stiff, beans and the rice were not that great. I love the tortillas though. That was the best part of the the whole meal. We ordered aguachiles and they were $14.00 which I consider a rip off. So if you’re going to make that trip thinking is going to be worth it based on your budget I’d say think about it twice. Just go to Los compadres in Long Beach for the aguachiles and you save the gas money. Another thing I noticed is that waiters and guys that work there have never seen good looking females. They stare like they won’t get another chance in life to look at something good again. It’s alright to do that if you are on the street but at work it is sort of unprofessional and it makes people feel uncomfortable no pueden ni tragar the stiff...
