Visited July 2010. OK, I am a little late in this review but I can't get this restaurant out of my head!
My Wife and made a trip to San Diego about 8 years ago. We are foodies and enjoy food everywhere we go and map our vacation around the food. I heard of a place that did deep fried lobster. Came across the town of Puerto Nuevo Mexico. So we got in the rental car and decided to travel to Puerto Nuevo. My Wife and I have never been in Mexico and I have to say I was a little concerning especially entering Mexico in Tijuana. Did I mention I was driving a Nissan Bright Blue 370Z rental car?
But we made it to Puerto Nuevo without incident and a very limited direction to the town (as our GPS did not work once we were in Mexico).
Pulled into one of the parking places close to the entrance of the town (right in front of a Restaurant called Puerto Nuevo). When my Wife and stepped out of the car a little gentleman walked over to me and asked "Do you need someone to watch your car"? I asked back "Do I need someone to watch my car"? About that time a gentleman from the restaurant came out and said "I will watch your car if you come eat with me". I told my Wife let's look at the menu. It was exactly what we were looking for. And I am so happy we went to this place.
The Gentleman sat us in the front of the restaurant facing the street and the windows were open-nice breeze.
We had both had the following Lobster Bisque, Fresh Fried Lobster stuffed & drinks. We figured the gentleman was the owner. The absolute best food I have ever had to date! The price for all that you received was the icing on the cake. We paid around $32.00 USD before tip.
I went to the restroom during my stay and I have to mention the bathrooms were the cleanest restaurant restroom I have ever been in. I took a peek behind the bar and it too was just as clean. The place was an absolute gem.
Sorry I have just placed this review after so long but I think of this place quit often and I want to return soon.

Read moreI live 10 minutes north and I have never seen the place open in the past 10 years. This past week, my uncle was on a cruise and took an excursion to rosarito and Puerto Nueve from the dock in Ensenada. The tour bus was headed to the restaurant from rosarito and I asked if I could follow in my vehicle and eat lunch with my uncle. They said that was fine, and they would give me the same price pack as the tour which they said was 23usd. Everyone was served 3 sizable fried lobsters and margaritas and sides. I had regular coke instead of alcohol and when I got my plate, it was only 2 very tiny lobsters that were a weird brown color, not orange or red like everyone else's. I then got a bill for 780 pesos, which is a lot more than 23usd. I said something about it and was told it was the Coca-Cola I ordered. Apparently the booze was free but canned soft drinks were nearly 20 bucks. The lobster was barely edible, although everyone else's looked ok. This place doesn't operate like ortegas or el guero, they only open up for these tour groups and they don't even seem to stock any food on site. They bring it in as-needed for these poor tour groups. Don't waste your time here. If you are on a vacation excursion, unfortunately you are missing out on some world-class lobster from the good restaurants down by...
Read moreDecided to try Puerto Nuevo #2 today for my girlfriends birthday instead of PN #1 because after many visits to the famous little lobster town south of Rosarito I was absolutely fed up with waiting in line up to 90-120 minutes just to get into #1 and decided we needed to break tradition...AND I AM GLAD WE DID! ☆ Reasons why Restaurante Puerto Nuevo #2 is BETTER than #1 ☆ -accepts credit cards (#1 does not) -no wait in line -more menu options than #1 -has a website (#1 does not) -food tastes just as good -better, friendlier more attentive service -equivalent prices -warm hand-made tortillas
For so many years i was brainwashed into thinking "if you really want the authentic Puerto Nuevo experience you MUST go to #1 even though you are going to wait in line for hours, get rude service, have limited options and must pay cash" ...well now i know...that's not completely true.
Look PN #1 is good...and i do recommend going there at least once just to say you did it but knowing in advance you're going to wait forever to get in, get mediocre service and must pay cash...but if you are a seasoned Puerto Nuevo visitor like myself then there is no actual need to put yourself through the unnecessary difficulty....just go directly next door to Restaurante Puerto Nuevo #2 and have a...
