If your idea of a great dinner is to eat really terrible and expensive food while sitting in big, wooden chairs at a table with no tablecloth and be waited on attentively while talented Mariachis play at you in surround sound this is your place!
Like all of the Royal resort properties and restaurants, this restaurant serves low quality industrial food washed in chemicals at caviar prices. I can only assume that it's a combination of low quality ingredients, truly clueless preparation and low kitchen oversight that makes this marvel possible.
For example: The beef and the beef fajitas has been over-tenderized to the point that it tastes like salty mush, the Brazilian pincanha "wagyu" steak for $40 USD comes out as half a fist of stringy, dry beef pulp floating in a bowl of murky cafeteria bullion with no accompaniments, The queso fundido (despite being served in Mexico where the ideal and wonderful cheese known as queso Oaxaca is abundant), is some kind of melted industrial mozzarella packaged cheese. The mole had no flavor complexity and tasted simply like poor chocolate with a little bit of coffee and a lot of sugar and it came served dryly on the chicken as if it had been brushed onto it with a paintbrush. The "chicarrones" were pea-sized scraps of beef soggily fried with no seasoning. I could go on, but there's no point. Someone neither understands plating beautiful presentations, nor delicious flavor combinations nor where to spend their ingredient money to properly present the best of Mexico's glorious gastronomy and that person is in charge of this kitchen.
To give credit where credit is due: The guacamole served tableside was better than average and the house steak was a decent piece of meat grilled well.
PostScript: Three of my 12 family members got sick of food poisoning after this dinner and have been vomiting starting half an hour after the meal and continuing into...
Read moreAwesome spot for some delicious Mexican food and great hospitality at an affordable price!
Quick Tips: Their cocktails are fantastic and come out to about ~$150-300 pesos The entrees are about ~$200-600 pesos, but most dishes are around $250 They accept credit/debit cards Dress is casual but no tanks or wet clothes A night out for 2 with 2 meals, 2 drinks (alcoholic), a split dessert, and tip comes out to about ~$900 pesos
The food here was the best food we had in Cancun, and surprisingly some of the most affordable. We tried fancy dinners at other spots along the beach that were easily 3x the price here, and they didn't even come close to the service and food quality. The burritos were very tasty with incredibly tender strips of fajita inside. The red sauce that's on the burrito and enchiladas is very good. The mole enchiladas were also very good, but know that this style of mole is just a tad sweeter than the more central Mexican city mole like in Monterrey. The fajita skillets are well worth the money, they definitely come loaded with a generous portion of meat for one person. They also brought complimentary chips and salsa to the table.
The Margaritas were delicious, both frozen and on the rocks. They also serve your typical domestic beers like Dos XX, Tecate, Corona, etc.
The decor is beautiful, but not too fancy. They do require you to dress casually in order to sit inside. If you have a tank or sleeveless, they'll ask to seat you outside, which is actually really nice at night. The servers here are also incredibly kind and attentive.
Definitely recommend this spot for a great dining experience at an affordable price. This place is well worth it, and much better than most of the expensive spots...
Read moreMy family of three just recently visited this restaurant while staying at a close by hotel. The food was delicious, portions were good size, the drinks were good. However, service is extremely slow! We waited over 20 min to get our drinks and some chips, and dips as a start up. The food took even longer than that. Appetizers arrived at the same time as the main course. My son (22 months old) was very patient (thankfully!) but he was hungry and thirsty because like I said, even the water took a while to get to us. I had to ask the server (Sergio) several times if he can gets us the soup at least so my son can have start working on his dinner. And the restaurant was not even that packed. Only a couple outside tables….This major delay caused us to miss our shuttle back to the hotel but that’s not the major issue here. The server on the other hand, was not as polite and pleasant as I wish he could’ve been considering the situation. He (Sergio) tried to stop us of ordering a main course dish because “you guys have already 2 main courses”. Excuse me? I asked him “but why? Are we restricted on food or why can’t we order another main course?” He felt certainty uncomfortable and proceeded explaining us that the dish we wanted is “too big for our family size” (fajitas). I told him we will pay extra but why are you trying to restrict me on what to order?! Anyway, my husband ended up ordering something else and was still...
