Marco Polo is one of the restaurants included in the all-inclusive package for Royal Solaris and GR Caribe.
Reservations are required, and there is a dress code.
The menu follows a daily theme, so check your app/QR code in advance. For us, it was "international." You can choose an appetizer, soup, main course, and dessert, each with options from various countries marked by their respective flags.
The meal started with bread and butter. The bread was just okay; it has generally been our experience that bread in this resort is somewhat mediocre.
We ordered Mo'ol Baalam, scallops in mandarin sauce, and Octopus Satay. Both were extremely good, with the octopus being the tastiest of all the octopus we had on the trip.
The soups were good as well. The French onion soup came in a bread bowl, and, once again, the bread was just okay. The Santa Fe cream soup was excellent and memorable.
For the main dishes, I ordered grilled Pacific salmon, but as I reviewed the menu now, I realize they gave me the wrong order! What I received was the Curried fish fillet. Oh well, I can't do anything about it now. The fish was extremely tasty, and the side veggies were great too. However, I really disliked the pea puree. My wife ordered Lemon Chicken, and we got the Chicken Supreme for my son. Both were good but not great, and again, the pea puree was the lowlight of the dishes.
For dessert, we took the eclair of fine fruits and caramel mousse to go and ate them as a midnight snack. Both were excellent.
Overall, the portions were small but made up for by the four courses. Everything felt like quality ingredients, and it mostly tasted good. Just avoid the gross pea puree!!
Service was good, even though now I know they messed...
Read morewhat a joke. A steak house that didn't serve steak. We sat down, party of 10, nothing was said to us for the first 15 min. First time here so we didn't know what's what. No one told us how it works. We only had 8 plates, asked for 2 more for our party. They just say yes. Plates didn't come until we asked a total of 3 times. Obviously there's a big language barrier here, so I even pulled out Google translate. Typed out questions about how it works and how do we order. Lady smirked, grabbed another guy. He read the message. He looked confused. Didn't answer me, and walked away. Apparently they just walk around with meat on a stick to give people, which still no one explained. Problem is, there's 3 servers for about 15 tables. Every time they would bring out meat, they would start at the left of the room and circle to the right. We were in the back right corner, making it to about 60 minutes before actually getting food, and after asking numerous times. They never explain, just say yes to whatever you ask them. Extremely poor service. Food was...
Read moreWe were staying at Royal Grand Solaris and went to the Marco Polo restaurant for the last dinner in Cancun. It was an amazing experience. Lovely atmosphere, outstanding service with delicious foods that not only feed your tummy but also your eyes and mind. The design of the restaurant, which was a Persian style design (despite its Italian name and food) with a large photo-art with Qajar Kings of Iran (Persia) made it very unique. Delfine (if the spelling is correct) served us with a friendly smile and we were so happy to be served by him. So humble and kind...
