Mediocre food with unknowledgeable staff and inattentive service. The evening fluctuated between unfavorable events and decent moments.

The decor was nice with a dimly lit interior. We were seated inside, and shortly after, we asked to be seated outside to which the waiter said it wasn't possible, but he'd ask the hostess. Later, a manager accompanied the waiter and said we could be seated outside, but he recommended we did not as the atmosphere was unfavorable, even though it was a cool night with plenty of people already seated outside. To avoid further conversation, we just let it be and stayed inside.
We were presented with only a brief cocktail menu and wine list, no food menu. This was odd to me because I prefer to pair my drink with my main dish, but I had to choose a drink without even knowing what they served. This was a drawback for me. Once we ordered, they left and came back with dinner menus.
I ordered a mule variation, and she ordered a Chaman. The waiter came back shortly to tell us that my wife's drink was unavailable. She chose another, the Catrina, no problem. He then came back with our drinks, and he handed my wife a drink in a copper mug and myself a large stemmed glass saying that the copper mug one was a Chaman and mine was a Catrina. I asked why he said the Chaman was sold out and why he hadn't brought me my mule, and he said that the mule was out, not the Chaman, which wasn't what he initially told us. The mule traditionally comes in a copper mug, and this variation came with sliced salted strawberries and basil, exactly what he gave my wife. Furthermore, no other cocktail in their menu came with sliced strawberry, basil, and mezcal. I later asked a manager what my drink was, and he then told me it was neither of those 3 drinks, he said it was a Josefina because it had strawberries. I'm convinced he was wrong, too. The Josefina did come with a strawberry puree but no basil or strawberry chunks according to their menu, and my drink didn't have puree. Overall, I was told my wife's drink was 3 different drinks by the staff when I'm 100% certain it was the mule I had ordered.
For an appetizer, we ordered the Queso Flameado which was very good. It came with chunks of chorizo. There were only 3 small tortillas, though, and you have to make sure to eat it quick before it hardens, but that's with all Queso. They also provide complimentary tostadas with excellent salsa and a decent cactus salad and refried beans. They did clear out our plates a few times while we were eating to give us clean ones, only to clear those out before we touched them, odd.
Throughout the night, they projected various music videos on the wall and had live mariachi accompany some of the songs. The mariachi were good enough to have performed alone, so I'm not sure why they just played background to a music video.
For dinner, my wife had a seared tuna over mango, and I had a salmon over a red salsa. Both were good, but nothing more. No flavors stood out, there wasn't any complexity or varied texture. Just plain ol' fish. Definitely not worth the price.
For dessert, we had a brownie with a scoop of strawberry ice cream drizzled with sweet cream. It was tasty, but no eye-opener. The brownie was not warm, and the texture was very crumbly. Mixed with the ice cream and cream, it just felt like one big mushy cake.
At this point, I was willing to leave a decent review and a not-so-well deserved tip, that is until the waiter forgot about us. We waited just over half an hour after finishing our meals to receive the check. Absolutely unacceptable.
Overall, I recommend that you don't eat here if you want to enjoy your evening. Do your taste buds a favor and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Porfirio Cancún, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, with a modern yet cozy ambiance. The attention to detail in the interior design is evident, from the stylish furniture to the carefully chosen artwork adorning the walls. It truly creates a welcoming and sophisticated environment.
Now, let's talk about the food. Porfirio Cancún specializes in Mexican cuisine, and they certainly do it justice. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional dishes, as well as some unique and creative twists on classics. Each dish is prepared with the utmost care and attention to flavor.
I started my meal with the guacamole, which was absolutely delicious. The avocados were perfectly ripe, and the combination of fresh ingredients created a burst of flavors that was simply delightful. The highlight of the evening was the Hot Stone New York Steak. It was not only delicious but also a unique and interactive way to enjoy your meal. Cooking the steak on the hot stones added an element of excitement and made the experience truly memorable. I highly recommend trying this dish for a fun and enjoyable dining experience at Porfirio's.
For my main course, I decided to indulge in the mouthwatering Tiesos dish. This delectable creation features a perfect blend of flavors, including creamy avocado, crisp radish, fragrant coriander, zesty red onion, and a tantalizing green sauce. The star of the dish is the Red Chilli Beef Stew, which adds a rich and savory element to the overall experience. The combination of these ingredients creates a harmonious symphony of tastes that will leave your taste buds dancing with delight.
The service at Porfirio Cancún was impeccable. Amado and Abdon were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they were serving. They were more than happy to answer any and all questions we had, making us feel like a valued guest throughout the entire evening.
To top it all off, the drink menu at Porfirio Cancún is extensive and impressive. They offer a wide selection of tequilas and mezcal, as well as a variety of signature cocktails and for me great mocktails . I tried their sunrise, and it was hands down one of the best I've ever had. The balance of flavors was spot on, and the presentation was visually appealing, passion fruit puree , pineapple juice, lime juice, Red Bull® Tropical and pineapple leaves.
In addition, Porfirio Cancún is an excellent choice for celebrating special milestones. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel truly special and create a memorable experience.
Overall, my experience at Porfirio Cancún was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delicious food, beautiful ambiance, and outstanding service made for a truly memorable dining experience. Whether you're a local or a tourist visiting Cancún, I highly recommend paying a visit to Porfirio Cancún for a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine...
Read moreFirst of all, let me say it, Portfirio is one of my preferred restaurants. Left 5* review on Google for the one in Playa. And don't get me wrong, they aren't perfect. They got me the wrong dish last time. But ate it knowing their food is good and not complained. The waiter acknowledge it but I decided to have it and left him even a tip. It's fine. But my experience in Cancun!! I came in at 2.30 pm and restaurant was empty. Just a table on the terrace. I asked waitress for table on the terrace and she said can give me only indoor. I was puzzled. Nobody there. I insisted and she said will give me in between area, terrace and indoor. I told her that I only stay an hour, eat and go, to give me outside. I really wanted to stay outside but I thought they have the place reserved, fully booked already. Cdnt explain otherwise. Eventually she let me sit second row of tables from water side. Just on front of the other table. Covid and sitting didn't make sense when, for the whole time I was there, no other tables were occupied. None. The table I found there when I came in, left and another person came with 2 children and got worse one, beside the other table previously occupied but now free and behind me. I ordered the food which was good. I'm familiar with it, I know their menu by heart since I went often to the one in playa. The setting in cancun is so much nicer. But not the service. I felt they were all over me at times. The person who took the order disappeared in the middle of service and came back only end. Then you have others coming and asking if OK but not when you want to get their attention. Second course I had no knife. Looked for them they they disappeared at once and come back together :) tortilla cold with hard edges left from first course had to ask for second as the food could not be eaten on its own. Dirty avocado with tuna bowl left there for the entire meal. Manager came once he asked me if Ok at the beggining . I said this is a beautiful restaurant, all good, just started the meal. Mentioned I go to the one in playa as I live there on and off. At the end upon leaving he approached me again and asked me if this one is better than playa. I mentioned the incident with the hostess. I showed him how restaurant was completly emplty and how difficult it was to get this table on terrace asking 3 times. I could see he was not open to feedback and I just stopped. What bothered me the most was the waitress attitude on tip. I didn't like the service at all and I wanted to leave 10% tip. Obviously this was not on her liking as she input the amount and then saidn15%? I answered that I said 10 not 15 but OK if she really insists. She said OK, thanks and took 15% on top of the bill. I felt like she put her hand in my pocket at this stage. Really #grupo Anderson's? To this level? Perhaps should invest in quality, to check your standards you want to implement. I put photos of the food and other tables. Indoor, dead, not even one...
