While walking this strip, along with many others in Yucatan, there will be people trying to entice you eat at their restaurant. We chose this restaurant because the atmosphere, music, decoration and others here gave us confidence to give it a try.
We got various things but it all started with the nachos they provide. They were stale and the sauces were okay. Nothing too spicy so that was good.
Washrooms are inside and free to use but one of them has no light so you need a flashlight. Eating outside is nicer than inside which seems more like a sad bar
I got tacos al pastor. They were okay. It was pretty annoying that I wasn't able pick and choose types of taco without there being a huge premium. I was told they had a combo that came with 2 chicken tacos, al pastor and a sirloin one I believe but I told him I actually did not want the chicken, I wanted al pastor. Al pastor tacos were the cheapest but the server was not willing to allow me to replace the chicken tacos for al pastor because he said the combo was as is. If i wanted to get the same type of tacos and amount, while changing those two, it would cost almost twice as much per taco so I just went with the al pastor set of tacos.
The waiters in many locations seem to hate the fact that people are using their service.
Horchata was rice based which is typical in Mexico but it wasn't that good even to that standard.
The winning aspects is the atmosphere and value of amount of food vs price. Besides that, try...
Read moreI recently dined at El Poblano, and while there were some highlights, overall, the experience left much to be desired.
Let's start with the good: the rice and salad were undoubtedly the stars of the meal. Fresh and flavorful, they were a delightful accompaniment to the dishes.
However, the standout of the evening was the exceptional service provided by the busboy. His attentiveness and professionalism truly elevated our dining experience.
Now, onto the not-so-great aspects: El Poblano is undeniably overpriced for the quality of food it offers. While it may suffice for those craving Mexican cuisine in the United States, it falls short compared to other options in the area.
Unfortunately, the burrito was a major disappointment. The tortilla was hard, and the tomato sauce felt like it came straight from a can. Even the shrimp lacked flavor, making the dish unpalatable.
If you do decide to visit El Poblano, I recommend sticking to simple options like the rice and salad. Also, opt for the strawberry freshwater over the pineapple—it's a much better choice.
In conclusion, while El Poblano may have its highlights, particularly in service and certain sides, its main dishes fail to impress, making it difficult to justify the...
Read moreExcellent food and very well priced. Extensive drinks menu - all served well.
Costilla tacos a personal highlight (from what we ordered). Generous portions and typical presentation with ample complimentary salsas/herbs etc. Have been in mexico a few months and can confidently say the taquiera fare here as good as the good places in CDMX.
Extremely friendly waiting staff - all of whom very professional (especially Miguel). Made to feel very welcome despite our relatively limited spanish!
From the demographics of punters in the restaurant - clearly a favourite of locals within the area.
Atmosphere very pleasant - great place to watch the football (USA v Mexico).
On another night we opted to grab food to takeaway and came here. Food also excellent as takeaway - order taken promptly and left the restaurant with the food within 10 minutes of ordering.
Cannot recommend highly enough - if you are a tourist in cancun looking for a change from the regular hotel district offerings I cannot recommend Taquería el Poblano...
