It was a cold rainy night and I was in search of comfort food when I came across Hij@s de Maíz. The vegetable pozole I ordered was just what I was looking for. The pozole came out fresh and piping hot; I ate every bite. Delicious. The guava juice was made fresh and provided a bit of sweetness. And then there was la dueña! A soft spoken and warm woman whose kindness and great cooking I’ll never forget. I plan on returning before leaving San Cristobal de las Casas to try other dishes in her varied menu. First of all the Pozole is DELICIOUS. I’d reccomend the green one, it has a very distinct and delicious flavour. The red was also incredibly yummy though! The atmosphere is really lovely, the lady who owns the restaurant was playing classic Mexican music with all her little knicknacks and posters of mexico. It felt very cosy. On top of that the owner is a very warm and lovely lady. We had a special evening chatting with her after we’d eaten....
