This one is complicated because I really liked the overall vibe and want to hang out there, but think that for the money the food needs some work
The oysters with uni and caviar were somewhat hindered by the sauce but still very tasty. It would be better with a proper ponzu or something without much sweetness, and a. Still the best thing we ate here and if you like the ingredients you'll definitely like it
Tongue tacos were ok. Definitely the best deal, but I didn't care for the combo texture wise with the beans, and the masa didn't stand out even though it was blue. Tongue was cooked perfectly though, although I think they should stick with a single thick sliced and finish it on the grill. Didn't care at all for the sauce. It needed less if it at least. Although these weren't my favorite they are probably a good choice if you wanted to hang out there and not spend a ton
The steak - this is what cost a star. It is expensive for the quality (900 pesos with zero marbling. Equivalent to a USDA select or choice at most). It had a saltyness to it that I don't associate with properly seasoned steak, possibly due to being salted after being sliced? Maybe with fine iodized salt instead of rock salt before being cooked.
Although It was quite large, It did not come cooked properly. While it was technically a mid rare, it had no carmalization or grill marks but was rare at the very center, suggesting the grill wasn't hot enough and that they didn't have a place to cook it properly and rest it to get to temp. The sauce would have been better on the side, and since the slicing was not particularly skilled it might as well have been a whole steak and let it stay warm (served timed after sitting at it doesn't bleed out). Should have had black pepper on the steak or in the sauce or on the table
I really just don't think they should serve steak. Steak isn't hard to do correctly but it isn't best done pan fried, and if you don't have time to heat up a grill properly then just do something that people have lower expectations for. Also, quality of meat is everything
High hopes for this place. Hip staff and great vibe. I'll give it another shot and update my review each time, but might stick to the most basic food, probably sashimis and ceviches, that aren't trying to be...
Read moreExcellent service. Good food, prepared with great attention to detail and presentation, accompanied by a full explanation of what is placed on your view for your enjoyment. The atmosphere is an astonishing and beautiful surprise as you step indoors. I stopped by chance as I scouted for a place for a future visit. I sat at the bar in an attempt to further delight my senses with a light taste of the chef’s magic. After a slight misunderstanding by my server of what I was after—having explained it as I placed my order for a (single) taco I was presented with a beautiful dinner being not what I had in mind at all. I realized I was partly at fault since I did not ask for a menu; had simply asked for a taco and accepted the suggestion of some vegetables ‘on the side’. Thankfully, upon my request and having explained to the chef the situation I faced, he decided in my favor to my satisfaction and gained a repeat customer and helped accomplish my mission of finding a pleasant place to dine soon with my special friend Mary. I remain thankful to Alex, she was very friendly and helpful, Ruth whom answered attentively to my questions, and the magnificent Chef Carlos. I’ll be back—with more two dollar bills……I was pleased with my return visit though my friend was not ready to dine, it was a great surprise they had added craft beers to which we were delighted to have. After my friend needed to depart I did try a couple of tacos that had been recommended by a different restaurant’s chef where I visit regularly for the best (seafood) Cóctel de la Casa at ENZIMATICA, Chapultepec. Needless to say both tacos were exquisite! Sofia’s service was appreciated. Next time it...
