Losing quality… Or quality Lost!
This is where I start… we’ve been customers pretty much since they opened, also massive customers from the days where they had Ramen Ya’ across the road from Bonito, but the truth is… Their Ramen high standards are simply, gone. Which is sad.
Remark: Their Ramen a while back used to be fantastic, now it is literally the opposite. Not exaggerating.
Don’t know where and why their recipes got lost but yesterday was our 5th (fifth) consecutive visit where the Ramen arrived cold despite us asking the waiter covered in Tattoo to specifically help make sure it didn’t happen and he seemed to know that it was an issue that happened before.
It arrived cold anyway… Flavorless. Shoyu was less hearted that a plain basic Miso soup, zero punch, served half way, pork is as thin as a slice of ham, I could count the amount of corn they added to the bowl since there was pretty much no broth… Which is a KEY element to a good Ramen moment!!! Very very poor serving.
The Tan Tan is supposed to be a “greasy”spicy full body by nature delight, so they say, but when you serve it cold is surely not a nice experience. Are they throwing cold noodles into a warm broth?
The two stars are merely for their tasty (but expensive) appetizers for the amount they plate. 6 tables and a 45 minute wait for the food to arrive, two waiters on duty that we could see.
Recommendation to the owners, try your dishes please. We know for a fact, 100%, that you will relate to my comments, specially the Ramen ones. Perhaps as a surprise customer to test your kitchen staff. They seem to be all over the place!
At this moment, Bonito Kitchen stands very very far from a pleasant Ramen experience… Very far. But we know they have the potential to bring them formulas back to where they were. It just a question of dedicating time and supervise what the kitchen staff is handing out.
Note the photo is with an extra portion of noodles added on and still, not event 3 quarters of the way filled up. Looks like a Poot regular portion to me!
Please… Bring back RamenYa’!!!!
We will comeback one last time… or one more time. It all depends on your efforts I guess to...
Read moreDue to our extended stay in Puerto Vallarta, we thought we would give this place a try after reading the reviews as we have started to miss Asian food.
We were told that we could only sit outside even though there were open tables inside. No big deal although it was very hot and humid to eat outside and ruined the experience even more.
We ordered some appetizers and I will rate them below: Karaage 4/5 - this was over cooked. Takoyaki 4/5 - not bad, but the outside feels overcooked/over fried Summer roll 5/5 - this was actually good
Now let me get to the main course: Ramen. The overall rating is 1/5.
We ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and Tan Tan Ramen. Both were flavorless and bland. As soon as I saw the Tonkotsu Ramen come out I had a bad feeling - the broth is supposed to be rich and creamy but it looked clear like chicken broth. It also tasted very plain, as if the only thing they put in there was salt. I paid 60 pesos for extra chashu but there were only 4 small pieces of chashu TOTAL. Seriously?! As someone who was born and raised in Asia and have traveled and lived all over the world (including Japan), this was by far the worst ramen I have ever tasted. It is nowhere close to the real thing. I gave one star for the noodle as the texture was on point, however it was plain as well and not what you are supposed to use in this type of ramen.
The bill was not cheap, and the food was definitely not worth it. Instant ramen will have better flavor than this. I am very disappointed and cannot recommend this...
Read moreI had really high hopes for this place and was extremely excited for it. They claim how “authentic” they are and they are definitely not. We tried multiple dishes, and they claim to be Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Taiwanese. They definitely tried to please Americans. For example listing something as lumpia (which by the way is Filipino) and it’s really mozzarella sticks in a wrapper. Needless to say if you are looking for true authenticity, this is not it. Their cocktails were tasty, but took over 25 minutes to get to us...... when we were the only table there. I probably would have gotten more if they bothered to come back, but they were almost annoying with several servers asking if we have ordered yet, which they should know, and then after we got our food were pretty scarce. I’m shocked this place had such a high rating and I really wanted to like it. Their food was kind of bland, and their sauces consisted of balsamic vinegar and sriracha. If anything I’m confused as an Asian food lover. They also didn’t bother to tell us about the “ladies night free wine” but certainly told the...
