I have visited Frankies 4 times now and have enjoyed it every time. It isn’t trying to be anything more than what it is, a charming little place for an easy, casual dinner.
Their menu is extensive, lots of options to choose from and they also have a surprisingly decent wine selection! Thus far (over the 4 visits) I’ve tried the pizza + bottle of wine special, spaghetti bolognese, the fried ravioli, bruschetta and Italian salad. The focaccia with pesto sauce that comes to the table is a great little snack, takes the edge off when you arrive starving.
I love the Italian salad. It’s perfectly dressed, not swimming in it. I hate an over dressed salad. I also love the option for 1/2 order on their salads. The bruschetta is tasty. It is served on pizza crust not bread. The first time we got it, the crust was nice and crispy which I prefer. The second time it wasn’t as crispy and I didn’t love it as much, but that’s personal preference. The fried ravioli are my fave! I could eat them every day. I’ll be honest and say one time the pizza wasn’t crispy enough so the next time we asked for it to be crispier and it was perfect! Just the way we like it. For those that prefer a doughy/bready pizza, you won’t like it. Bolognese is a go-to for me when I’m trying a new Italian place. I found it totally satisfying.
The overall service is good. Joe (Joel) is excellent! He is attentive, personable and good at his job.
Great little place to have...
Read moreCame upon this restaurant while staying at the Airbnb lofts beside this establishment (Loft 268). As I was viewing the menu, located on a stand outside the restaurant, at the edge of the sidewalk, an employee approached as he was taking out the garbage. He said, at that time, they were only doing take out orders.
Went inside and placed an order with the bartender. He may not have been the bartender but he was behind the bar. He had a “manager/owner” vibe to him.
Anyhow, I placed my order for fried eggplant sticks and the pasta bolognese.
As I was waiting, I noticed two parties being seated in the dining area. Then a 3rd couple also seated. Hmmm… I was told they were only doing take-out orders. Not a big deal, but still thought it best to mention.
Took the food back to the airbnb. The fried eggplant, bland. Nothing. I mean, eggplant really has no taste but it does at the same time. This is where one would think to rely on the breading for taste and seasoning. The breading didn’t help, totally unseasoned. Of the 4 eggplant sticks, I trashed the remaining 3 and 1/2.
As for the pasta bolognese, it wasn’t too bad. It had flavor and it was seasoned. They also sprinkled Parmesan cheese.
Would I come back? Hmmm… no, I would not. But I still recommend others check it out, just don’t order the fried...
Read moreThe salad had an odd dressing on it that was gross. I took one bite and set it aside. My husband tried it and it was the same reaction. The lasagna tasted like it had nutmeg or a similar seasoning it it and the spaghetti that I ordered had a strong Fennel taste. The only thing that was good at this restaurant was the bruschetta and the bread with pesto. Aside from the food the service wasn't the best. The waiter greeted us and brought drinks, but after that we had to flag him down to get a refill. He asked brought my husband his drink and I thought he would come back to refill my tea, but no. I had to wave and ask if I could get more tea and sugar. I never got the sugar. Not a great experience. It wasn't busy at all, so the service was confusing. I wouldn't return. Every other restaurant we have been to in the week we have been here has been delicious and great service, but this one let us down. A friend told me about it, so this was an unexpected experience. Her and her husband always just get the pizza. Maybe that is a better option. I am not sure as we...
