I had an exceptional dining experience at La casa de los platos, and it all began with the warm and welcoming staff. Our server, Abraham, was not only attentive but also incredibly friendly. His excellent suggestions added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal, and one recommendation, in particular, stood out – the Lobo Cocktail.
I mentioned my preference for bitter cocktails over sweeter ones, and Abraham suggested the Lobo Cocktail, which turned out to be a brilliant choice. This exquisite concoction was a delightful fusion of a Negroni and a smoky margarita. With its refreshing and perfectly balanced flavors, it left a lasting impression. I can't recall all the ingredients, but mezcal, grapefruit juice, basil, Aperol, and a few other secret components combined to create a truly memorable drink. I highly recommend trying it.
Now, onto the food. We started with the guacamole, and it was a burst of incredible flavors. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The Chile Nogada was a pleasant surprise. Instead of the pine nuts and pomegranate seeds being inside the filling, they were skillfully sprinkled on top, adding a delightful crunchiness and bite to the dish. The deep-fried parsley was a unique and tasty twist on this classic dish, and all the flavors harmonized perfectly.
The grilled chicken with grilled veggies was outstanding. Both were cooked to perfection, showcasing the chef's expertise. We couldn't have asked for a better main course.
For dessert, we decided on the Flan de Elote. While it may not have been the most visually appealing dish, the flavors were spot on. It was a sweet ending to our meal.
Unfortunately, we were on a time crunch and had to rush through our lunch. However, I will definitely make it a point to return when I'm in town. I also want to commend the management for accommodating my partner, who had recently undergone back surgery, by providing a cushion for added comfort.
La casa de los platos has left a lasting impression on me, not only for its delectable food and cocktails but also for the exceptional service and thoughtful touches like the cushion. It's a dining experience I look forward to repeating in the future. Kudos to the entire team for creating such a...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant with a group of about ten friends for lunch, and it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had.
From the moment we sat down, red flags started appearing. While we were given food menus, when we asked for a drink menu, the staff claimed they didn’t have one. The waiter barely spoke English, making communication extremely difficult throughout our visit.
Against our better judgment, we trusted their recommendations and ordered 5 shots of tequila. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to discover they had charged us $40 per shot - a total of $200 for five shots! After checking online, we found that an entire bottle of this mediocre tequila retails for approximately $40.
When we confronted the staff about these ridiculous charges, they offered no explanation whatsoever and showed zero willingness to address our legitimate concerns.
This establishment clearly targets tourists with predatory pricing and unprofessional service. The food quality doesn’t justify the prices either. Stay far away from this place - there are countless better options in the area that won’t try to rip you off. This kind of tourist exploitation is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the local dining scene. Save your money and find somewhere that treats customers with basic respect...
Read moreIf any tourist wants to be immersed into Guadalajaran cuisine, culture, music and architecture, this place has it all. Upon entrance, you are immediately placed within the ambiance of a traditional hacienda courtyard filled with stone and greenery. We ordered a guacamole, in which we got to decide the spice level from 1-10. We also ordered octopus carnitas, a chicken dish that I cannot remember the name of, and a chile relleno. Everything, and I mean everything, exceeded expectations. You can taste the spices and simple sauces that give way to big flavor. The tortillas are fresh, reminding me of being at an abuelita’s house, right in her kitchen. We dined and conversed to the sweet sound of mariachi melodies, never too loud, but always present in the moment. We have been to some fine dining restaurants in Mexico City, Cabo, and Oaxaca, the food here is by far and away the best. In our first night in Guadalajara, it left a lovely impression. We did not want to leave, the only thing leading us away was the fatigue and a promise of a...
