A truly a special experience! In my review, I will cover the food, the prices, the atmosphere, and the staff. We are a party of four, who have now eaten 3 times at the Mismaloya grill. I even chose this spot for my special birthday dinner.
The food:
We tried the mango chicken, pizza (Only on Wednesday nights), salads, pasta, shrimp, french fries, and desserts. All were amazing, ESPECIALLY the habanero mango sauce, made in house. So much flavor! They served extra sauce on the side with toasted garlic bread.
The desserts are baked fresh, in house, and there was usually quite a variety of decadent chocolate options. German cake, dark chocolate pecan tart, brownies with homemade ice cream.
Over all our years traveling in Mexico, French fries can be a hit or miss. These were by far the best! Thin cut, light and crispy, delicious seasoning.
Prices:
Everything was reasonably priced for the level of what was offered! We paid around $200-$300 pesos for an entree, and $65-95 pesos for desserts. That is $10-15 USD and $3-5 USD. If they raise their prices, it will still be worth the special night out.
The atmosphere:
Mismaloya grill is located inside the La Jolla De Mismaloy Condos. It is a quick bus or taxi ride from town. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the front door staff and ushered downstairs on an elevator. Reservations are recommended, but not necessary. When we did have to wait for a table, the staff offered us comfortable seating with a gorgeous view of Mismaloya Beach, which is below the condos. Be sure to arrive in time for sunset for the best views!
Your table is on a lovely, covered patio, with an elegant open kitchen, where you can watch the chef create your dinner. They play soft, tasteful background music, and after dark, the palms are lit up with soft twinkle lights.
The menu is a large, hand drawn chalkboard sign that changes on a regular basis, including their usual specialties, and sometimes new surprises. When you are seated, the wait staff will bring the chalkboard to you!
Keep in mind, the grill is only open during the high season (winter) for six months, and they are closed every Sunday.
The staff:
The restaurant has been passed down through two generations. The owners work hard in the restaurant every day as a family, and they are obviously passionate about good food!
When I told them it was my birthday, they offered free dessert, brought a huge sparkling candle to my table, played special music, and even gave me a small gift! I was blown away!!!
The woman who owns the restaurant speaks wonderful English, and her polite young children were often there learning the family trade. Absolutely beautiful hospitality. As stated, they are passionate about what they do.
I HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant for something elegant, relaxing, and off the...
Read moreI'm so confused by the reviews here. My family and I went last night (pizza and pasta night) and we were incredibly disappointed. The vongole was drowning in a flavourless butter sauce - no hint of anything except cheap butter. Several unopened clams and the shells of multiple mussels were cracked. I had to pick through shards of shell. The carbonara was okay, but had way too much sauce. The shrimp Alfredo was also just okay. The other meal ordered was Pepperoni pizza. We appreciated the amount of cheese and the sauce was good. The pizza came out a full five minutes after the pasta came out. The limonada was served in a stemmed glass that had huge chunks missing from the bottom and a large chip on the rim. The servers were pleasant and receptive to the feedback we gave them. The atmosphere was lovely, but hard to get past the disappointing food. Judging by the other reviews here, our experience doesn't fit. So not sure what...
Read moreINCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE! Perhaps the best filet mignon I've had in my life (it was the special), and I love steak! We were recommended this place by someone in our hotel, and while it was a little difficult to find at first, we were overjoyed with our dinner once we arrived. It is a small, family operated restaurant that has an incredibly authentic feel, and an amazing oceanfront view. We were in a bit of a cranky mood from a long day and being unable to find it at first, but it ended up making our night, and may be the most memorable meal we've had in our time in Mexico. We had the caesar & greek salads, filet, the shrimp diablo, and orange glazed salmon- everything was out of this world. Even though it's early for Mexico, I'd say go to dinner around sunset, because it is on the most beautiful cove facing west right over the Pacific. Can not recommend this...
