I’ve given this two stars in large part due to the lack of kitchen equipment. If that isn’t important to you, I’d give it three stars. Our problem was that for $425 USD per night, we expected so much better.||Pros:| - Grounds are beautiful| - Unit was as lovely in the pictures & the view was great| - Pool service was good – though there were no gluten free options for lunch||Cons:| - Our penthouse unit was advertised as a “fully equipped kitchen”. We came thinking that meant we would be able to cook and eat in the unit. Which we ultimately did, but not without challenges. Here are the things gone wrong or basic equipment missing:| - There were no: Hot pads, kitchen towels, dish soap, coffee filters, measuring cups or spoons.| - The only pots/pans were two small frying pans and a medium sized Dutch oven. There was no pasta pot, no cookie sheets, and no broiler pan.| - The oven wouldn’t light. The microwave didn’t work. The nice big gourmet style double door refrigerator was marked with a sign saying “not working”. They had put a smaller fridge next to it that was barely large enough for the food we brought for the 4 days we stayed there.| - The kitchen garbage can was broken. We asked for it to be emptied mid week – which they did but then they had no additional garbage bags to line it with. We used some old gift bags for the kitchen trash after that.| - No basics like salt, pepper, or oil. There was instant coffee and tea, but no pot to heat water.| - There was limited cutlery. No steak knives, and only two place setting type knives. The one kitchen knife was horribly dull and the tip was cut off (see photo). There was no paring knife.| - There were limited kitchen tools and no wine bottle opener, and no spatula.||The unit itself also had the following issues:| - The air conditioning did not work. The unit got to about 90 degrees in the late afternoon. The front desk staff tried to tell us that it worked for the prior guest. But the maintenance crew didn’t even bother to try and fix it – they showed up and just shook their heads. We happen to be familiar with the particular unit that was installed and we know that its no longer serviceable.| - The wood tables are gorgeous, but there are no coasters to prevent you from damaging them with cold drinks.| - The hot tub on the deck was empty and clearly had been for months. They take days to heat, so no point in even trying to fill it.| - We went to the restaurant about 4pm. Got our drinks and appetizers. But after waiting another 30 minutes, there was no wait staff at all in the restaurant. We finally gave up on the main dishes we had ordered and went to the register to pay – to find the waiter asleep behind the desk.| - The shower smelled like rotten eggs when we started it. This happens when the water goes bad from not being used. The cleaning staff should run all the taps to ensure the water stays fresh. Someone had put a drain seal / cover over the shower drain. So the first shower we flooded the place. The reason for the cover is that when the traps dry out (because you don’t run the water through them often enough) they allow sewage gas up through them. The covers should be removed before the unit is occupied.| - We were eaten by mosquitoes – my face is covered in bites. We found three scorpions over the course of 4 days. We live in Mexico – so we are accustomed to bugs. But for what we paid, we would have expected them to have sprayed for bugs, or at least to have warned us not to walk across the unit in the dark for fear of...

Very poor service and organization. I did my reservation on 05/22 for 05/27,28. And they called me on 05/27 to tell me they need to change the schedule and date of my therapies, because the lady who did my reservation was new in that hotel and made a mistake, the very day we were going to arrived they called me. I didn't agree with what they asked, and let them know that wasn't professional at all. We arrived, and still they changed the schedules of my therapies, not the date, but the hour, telling me "We we're sorry, this was what we could do.." ruining our plans to visit the town. The food in the restaurant is a bit below average, as well as their wine and spirits menu, very limited, and the service in the restaurant is terrible, moody hostesses, moody waiters, there's a lack of -service- they seem unhappy. We complained with the waiter about his attitude and service, and before we left the table next to us did exactly the same. This morning we had breakfast and we got hard bread, it seemed like 2-3 days old, and it was moldy, it was so disgusting, when I told the waiter (the same with the attitude the night before) and he only gave me many silly excuses. The restrooms in the restaurant are horrible, specially the seats of the toilets, it seemed they were picked from a junk yard, awful! The therapies/massages, were average, they lasted less time from what they supposed to like 5-10 min, I took 4, and the same happened in all of them, the massage therapists didn't care about personal instructions, I asked one not to touch my back as hard as she was doing it, and she continued despite telling her and me moving because of the pain. The rooms are ok, they don't show them completely on internet, and for sure they show their best rooms, I got one with a different floor from what I saw on internet, and the rest room is open right next to the shower, a bit uncomfortable. They are way too far of being a "high end" spa/hotel, there are better options with a better service and food in Jalisco. I wish there were better options around it as restaurants. Their big highlight is the place itself, it is a very beautiful place, beautiful landscape, beautiful...

Our first time to visit this hotel was 5 years ago and we loved it! One week ago my husband and I decided to celebrate my birthday there. We’ve booked a room with a beautiful view and jacuzzi and we were ready to have a great time… But what was our surprise when we found out that there was no cold water in the room🤷‍♀️. It is completely absent. We noticed this only in the evening, as we quickly took a hot shower by day, thinking that we had not figure it out the faucet ourselves. That evening, we called the reception with this problem, as the water was just boiling! We waited for almost an hour for someone to come to us, so we had to call again and remind them about our problem. After another call, the manager came to us and checked the water, making sure that the water was very hot, and cold was simply not in our room. They offered to replace the hotel with a simpler one and further away, but we did not want to move anywhere at night, especially without any compensation. They promised that the next day there would be a general manager who is competent in this matter and will resolve all issues. The next day, no one contacted us, we contacted the reception again ourselves, they said that they were not solving anything, but the manager Humberto Estrada would make some kind of compensation for the inconvenience. It's been a week since we moved home from the hotel. We call there almost every day, and each time we are answered that our issue is being resolved and the manager Humberto Estrada will contact us. No one has been calling us for a week, apologizing for the inconvenience. In general, the hotel is not bad, the only thing is that it has deteriorated a little in 5 years. There are broken tiles in the pool somewhere, the Jacuzzi does not work ... next time we will not return to this hotel. Especially with such a service

Amazing how a vision, creativity and love for beauty can turn a dry mountain hill into a paradise oasis. Located in San Juan Cosalá, The Monte Coxala is a beautiful, high-end spa with breath-taking scenery that follows an Aztec theme with larger-than-life statues of warriors and serpents with thermal baths dotting the property. Reservation was easily made by phone for a weekday appointment (today) as it’s less crowded at a reasonable price of 750 pesos/$39 USD per person (all day pass). Upon entering at the resort reception my partner, his family, our friends and I were greeted by the staff. Filled out a form and whisked us in a golf cart en route to spa reception to pick up our locker keys, bath robes and towels. There were about 6 pools filled with spring water that was hot. We ventured inside the back of a giant head of Olmeca into a hot tub. I was shocked to see a passage to an underground Olympic sized thermal water pool. The Infinity pool is out of this world for cooling down with some hammocks inside the cabanas. There’s a restaurant called Chac Lan Restaurante that served delicious food and again really amazing views, best on the lake being up so high. The menu was all in Spanish and our server was Juan. For first time visitors that don't speak Spanish it can be a bit disorienting as it's so large. It's a lot to take in and find your way around. I speak Spanish and was able to ask for directions and clarifications. This was our first spa treatment and found this place to be a real jewel with a great vista of Lake Chapala which we can recommend.
