While this place has its strong points, it also has a few shortcomings. There were six of us. My pazole was very good. However, three in our group were not thrilled with their food. Also, two orders were wrong... one just ate it, but the other had to wait about 20 more minutes after everyone was already eating. Perhaps this is due to the language barrier, and since we are in Mexico, this is our own fault for not speaking the language. We asked for separate checks (3), but the bill came in one long list, so we had to compute. The ambiance is rustic with tables on bare ground (must be interesting during the rainy season). There is a wonderful garden where they grow veggies and spices to use in their food - very cool. We sat under a shed roof, but since it was very warm, it would have been nice to have a fan in there. My wife, son, and I stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring the area, and we’re so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience.
We started with two mango aguas frescas and a spicy margarita recommended by our server. The margarita was perfectly balanced—bold, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat.
For dinner, we ordered sopes, pozole, and guacamole. While everything was delicious, the pozole was the true standout. It was incredibly flavorful, and my wife even said it was the best pozole she’s ever had. That’s a high compliment!
To top off the meal, our server suggested the brownie with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce for dessert. It was rich, decadent, and the perfect sweet ending to our meal.
If you find yourself in the Ajijic area, I highly recommend this place. Great food, great service, and an experience...
Read moreThis cozy little restaurant has some magic charm about it, and the food is great!! I first ate here back in June, after traveling to the Riviera Maya east coast and the mountains of Guanajuato, and I was so pleasantly surprised with how good the food was, as well as, the presentation and portions. Fast forward to now when I stopped in after retrurning to Lake Chapala from Canada, and I noticed some changes in layout, a new name (Tatehuari), and some new dishes added to the menu offering. Suggestion: give the Sopa Azteca a try; it is delicious! Changing a business name, menu, layout, etc. is not without risk, and I applaud the folks at Tatehuari for their efforts to improve upon their wonderful little restaurant! I plan to visit again; often! Muchas Gracias y Mil...
