Barrio Sur — Restaurant in Mexico City

It is sad that we do frequently take our "go-to" places for granted. Barrio is just such a place. We go there once or twice every month. The servers are like family and always friendly and warm. The menu is not huge but there is something from everyone from the amazing Pulpo Punta Ballena to the consistent and delicious cuts of meat. For octopus lovers, this is really one of the best in the city and always prepared perfectly. As frequently as we have been here, we have never had a meal that did not meet or exceed our expectations and I have been going since I first arrived in Mexico City over 15 years ago. Solid Argentinian restaurant in a cute & romantic setting.

They serve complimentary bread (not gluten-free) and aubergine at the beginning of the meal - both delectable.

Our favorite is the provoleta cheese (probably the best we have had in CDMX).

The meats and sauces are of good quality and flavor.

The strawberry meringue is a nice ending to the meal.

Con excelentes instalaciones e inmejorable ambiente romántico, lo mejor de este restaurante es su carta de vinos, muy variada y para todos los bolsillos, a diferencia de la comida, es indudable que cuentan con una muestra atractiva de platillos de la cocina uruguaya, pero algunas pruebas (carpaccios, empanadas u otras entradas) no llegan a cumplir las expectativas de precios tan altos. Por otro lado, si eres de los que gusta de un trato cálido y que se desvivan en atenciones para el comensal, definitivamente, éste no es tu lugar. Con un letrero (imaginario por supuesto) de “política de no intervencionismo”, los meseros transitan por las mesas como si de una pasarela se tratara, prestos recogen los restos del servicio, pero ni de broma intervienen para ofrecer una bebida o incrementar tu nivel etílico, pasé más de media hora esperando que me tomaran la orden, después de que dejamos respirar el vino tino jamás alguien sirvió la copa, después de comer sólo ofrecieron café y luego de otra media hora de estar sin gota de agua, entendimos que la mecánica era laissez-faire laissez passer.
