Beautiful setting, mediocre food, and underwhelming service.

The reservation process is challenging for non-Spanish speakers. I recommend making the reservation either via email or Instagram messaging, so that you can utilize Google Translate.

The tables in the garden are nice. You can request for them when making the reservation.

Most of the servers do not speak English. However, we came across 1 person who does when we were getting the bill. It made me wonder why they had not asked him to come speak with us when we needed help.

Of the items we tried, only the onion soup was up to standard. The escargot was okay. The filete en jugo de carne & coq au vin tasted very heavy (in an unpleasant way). The cocktails were just bearable.

Perhaps we did not order the right dishes. But overall the service felt stuffy, and it seemed like a restaurant more for the ambiance than for the food.

Side rant: considering that there is a gluten-free bakery in the same plaza, it surprises me that they do not offer...

  • Positive points * Nice atmosphere, beautiful garden; Romantic location (we went for valentine's Day); Delicious meal!!!! As a French it's important to me. I had one of the best Coq au vin in my life; great choice of wine (although somewhat pricey). The price is fair: between 200 and 400 pesos for most of the plato fuerte; entrada: between 150 and 300; dessert: about 150 we will definitely come back 🤗

  • Negative points * The butter (mantequilla)!!! We even asked the waiter and he told us that the cook uses the brand Gloria (never tried before, I had heard it should be good). It almost ruined the fondant au chocolat. My girlfriend and I are used to good butter. We have faced this issue with the butter in Mexico...

¡Definitivamente volveremos!

"Ahora en Ingles"

What a wonderful experience we had at Bistro 83! From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the incredible atmosphere this place offers. The elegant and cozy decor created the perfect atmosphere for a special dinner. But what really made our night memorable was the excellent customer service provided by our waiter, Alfredo. Their attentive and friendly attention made us feel truly welcome and cared for throughout the evening. And what to say about the food: each dish was executed to perfection and presented impeccably. Every bite was a delight for the palate, thanks to the talent of the executive chef, director Horacio A. Armendariz. Their culinary creations truly stand out for their exquisite flavor and visually impressive presentation. In short, Bistro 83 offers not only great food, but also a complete dining experience thanks to its charming atmosphere, exceptional service and talented culinary team. We will...

This Would have been a 5 star. The appetizers were excellent, creative and quick. Drinks came as ordered and the service was great in attitude. The high point was the roasted tomato soup with pine nuts. The place is just awesome. The low point was the tenderloin. Please avoid at all costs. It was hard, the bearnaise sauce was cold and it was simply horrible. Other guests did enjoy their meals. (Pasta with seafood) Dessert was excellent. Th wine list was limited and rather pricey. No Chilean or Ribera del Duero wines. The really bad part was the time it took between courses. I have been here before and it was much better. I will give it one more chance.

Very nice place to have breakfast in the south of Mexico City (San Angel). If you are nervous about covid or if you just want to spend some time outside while enjoying good food, you should reserve a table in the garden area. I went with my friends and we had an almost private area at the end of the garden where we could enjoy a nice conversation and food for many hours. I like the pan dulce, chilaquiles, coffee and jugo verde. The service was a bit slow because we were so far away but the place is beautiful so it’s worth it!
