If you’re a visitor like me, I recommend making this your first stop for brunch places. Explanation at the end.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The location and atmosphere were perfect. I couldn’t have asked for more there.
If you’re like me and speak less Spanish than many children, the staff will be perfect. All of them spoke at least enough English for me to get by, and were happy to do so. There are no English menus, so being able to read enough to get an idea helps. Otherwise use an app to translate.
As for the food I had chilaquiles verdes con pollo (green chilaquiles with chicken) and a mocha. The chilaquiles came with more sauce than I was used to and it was most of the flavor. A bit too sour for my taste. There was also what I think was a whipped butter on top. I’ve never seen that and can’t say I was a fan. The refried black beans were hidden on the bottom and seemed unseasoned. All of that sounds bad, but I’m sure some would love it. It just wasn’t for me.
The mocha was fine. It was unsweetened and I expected it to be creamier with using whole milk. It was very pretty and still good.
Overall, the place is fantastic and food was decent. If it was anywhere else I would have rated it higher. I say go here first because there are other places within walking distance that are unmatched in all categories. If you start elsewhere your expectations...
Read moreA breakfast spot with a promising start that fizzled into sub par territory super quick. Arriving early on a weekday, I found an outdoor seat with ease.
Let’s start with the best of the morning: the cinnamon roll. Word of it had reached my ears, and I’m pleased to report it lived up to the hype. This roll was the goldilocks of pastries—soft yet structured, sweet but never excessive. Each bite delivered comfort without veering into sticky sugar coma territory.
Then came the blueberry pancakes. They were… adequate—dotted with fresh blueberries, but the compote was sloppily applied, and sadly, lacked any freshness. Sometimes you just need a pancake that’s “good enough,” and these didn’t fit the bill.
The scrambled egg sandwich was a crash landing. Housed within a lazily buttered sourdough and served alongside forgettable potatoes, the sandwich was an uninspired mess. The eggs were overcooked, rubbery, and bereft of any redeeming flavor. A few bites in, I called it quits and sent it away.
Service? Transactional. My waiter appeared, took my order, and vanished. The ambiance was pleasant with its charming outdoor seating and morning calm, but even that couldn’t salvage the meal. Swing by for the cinnamon roll and be...
Read moreThe host that met us was very nice and welcoming. Wait was longer than estimated but that wasn’t an issue since it’s such a lively place. Food is well presented but the taste was underwhelming. We got the short rib sandwich which was good but didn’t taste like a 10hr roast as mentioned on the menu. The chilaquiles don’t taste as hyped, beans weren’t flavorful and the green sauce was a bit sour. We also got the avocado toast which slightly sour and the avocado was bruised. I’d recommend to ask for salt. The roobois tea latte with maple is great. We asked for orange juice and weren’t told there wasn’t any until half way through the meal. We asked for a mixed berry smoothie as a substitute, but they brought us a green smoothie instead. By the time the right smoothie got to us we were done eating. I’d personally recommend to check out other locations near by. Also the chef was going around greeting everyone but our table, he didn’t come to us until after we finished eating to collect our plates but didn’t seem to inquire why we only finished...
