Giving this place two stars (even though we did not enter the bar). After walking for 10+ minutes in the rain yesterday to get here we were asked for a $150 peso cover for each person. There is zero mention of cover on your Instagram or your website. When I asked if there was a performance tonight, I was told that there's always a cover to get in. To be clear, I just wanted to listen to some music and have some cocktails before dinner. Keep in mind this was at 7pm; I've read other reviews they have been indeed charging a cover, but that typically starts after 10pm.
This place feels predatory and to the point of other reviewers, clearly trying to get over on international travelers. I'm not trying to pay a cover for the opportunity to additionally pay to have drinks in your bar. It's really misleading when you don't post your practices for everyone to understand and see.
We ended up walking two blocks over to Licorería Limantour (a top 50 bar in North America) that doesn't require an unmentioned cover that provided us with great drinks and service.
Until Departamento is more transparent with their business practices, I'd recommend you take your...
Read moreThe manager straight up lies to sell more drinks.
We walked in late afternoon Saturday. The manager said there will be a table ready for us after one group, so we ordered a drink and waited at the bar - otherwise we would have left. There were about 5 tables empty but he said they were reserved - which made sense. About 40 minutes and two rounds of drinks pass, we check in again as 3 tables were still empty. Manager said in 15 minutes those reservations expire, so we will be seated. We order another round of drinks in the expectation. After 20 minutes, we check in again. The manager suddenly said there is a 20 minute grace period for all reservations. Then what was the "expiration" time? He should have told us 35 mins, not 15 mins. He doesn't apologize but still promise the table for us. 2 tables still empty. After 20 minutes we check in again, he said we can't get a table because there is a reservation, which does not make sense. We ask to clarify, he just repeats his illogical response. And of course, still no apology or acceptance of his changing words.
I have lost all trust in their service. Hope nobody go...
Read moreAn amazing bar with 3 levels. Very crowded and a lot of dancing on the first two levels. The rooftop (3rd level) is more for talking and meeting friends. There were bars and bathrooms on all 3 levels. Very secure and the staff was excellent!! I noticed that if any drinks were spilled the security and cleaning staff were quick to clean up even with the craziness of all the guests and dancing going on. They serve food but I didn't see what they had or see a menu. Bar service was excellent and fast!! Very professional bartenders.... reminded me of the 80s when I used to go out a lot. Music was more disco oriented and definitely made for dancing!! I was surprised by the mostly English speaking guests, whether they were Mexican or not. An incredible experience, a lot of fun and I'll definitely go there next time I go to...
