I came to Balmori this afternoon for just drinks and it was lovely and the espresso martinis were good. Being I liked the atmosphere, I decided to come back for dinner. I made a reservation. When we arrived they weren’t expecting us despite texting me a couple confirmation. They sat us anyway. Unfortunately this was the beginning of an overall poor experience. The drinks were good again but the dinner service was not. We ordered two apps and two entrees. They brought it altogether. The three “hot” items were all room temperature. The salad which should have been cold was a warm soggy mess. No one came to our table for a half hour after dishes were placed for us to tell them. We were hungry so we ate the room temp food (flavors were decent) except the salad which was inedible. When someone finally came back they came to clear the plates and asked if I wanted a box for the salad. I explained what was wrong with it and why I didn’t eat it. They took it to talk to a manager who sent the server back with a message “thanks for the commentary”. We requested the check and the salad was still on it. We just gave up, paid and left. In 8 days in Mexico City we have had nothing but good, friendly service everywhere we have dined except here. From the moment we arrived they seemed bothered we were there and uninterested in serving us.
Go for drinks. The vibe is good. I don’t...
Read moreI visited Balmori on a Thursday evening with a reservation, but upon arrival, they couldn’t find my name on the list. Fortunately, they were accommodating and seated us anyway, which I appreciated.
For my meal, I had the chef’s special, which was albondigas that day. Unlike traditional meatballs in a soup, these were covered in a rich sauce. The highlight, though, was the guava cheesecake. It didn’t have the usual cheesecake texture but was more like a gelatin, and despite being completely full, I devoured the entire thing.
The atmosphere is nice, lush, and tropical, making you feel like you’re dining in a hidden oasis. The service was wonderful, and the drinks were top-notch. I highly recommend the Jamaica Habanero.
Overall, a great experience with delicious food, a beautiful setting, and excellent drinks. Would...
Read moreIn my opinion this restaurant matches, if not exceeds, the rest of the quality restaurants in the neighborhood. The place so many good things going for it. First, the place looks great and the ambiance is fantastic. The music selection is good, pretty groovy and the volume is just right. The stars of the show are the food and drinks. O ordered a Mezcal drink with Jamaica. The drink came on this really cool mug and tasted great. I ordered the superfoods encrusted salmon as a main dish. This dish was phenomenal. I have never ate salmon like this before and I would highly recommend it to anyone who visits this place. I felt the need to ask the server to thank the chef for making that dish for me which I have never done in my life. Last but not least, the staff is friendly, attentive and very...
