Fritz — Restaurant in Mexico City

There probably aren't too many people who occasionally feel the need to eat German food, but being one of them, I really appreciate having this place nearby.

You won't find fondue or flammkuchen on the menu--Germany is, after all, more than just a few happy Bavarians living near the Alps--but the more standard German fare is done well, and in sizable portions. You'll also find a selection of most major Belgian and German beers--Hoffbrau was missing, notably--and if you're lucky, one of them will be on tap.

Being a historic place, the ambience isn't at all trendy and most days it's pretty quiet, but if you're just looking for a place with German food and beer done properly, you can't...

I was so excited to see a German restaurant. I ordered bratwurst, which is not hard to make. The preparation was strange, with lots of small lateral cuts in the sausage. No where was it well browned, the way I've eaten them in Germany and Switzerland, and the way I was trained to cook them in a German restaurant in the us. The sauerkraut was good, but a little too sweet and to sort, like too much of the original brine was served. I did like the potatoes. The staff just sort of stared at us when we came in. We asked if they were open. A man sitting at one of the tables told us yes. A couple came in a couple minutes later and went through the same thing. They really need to revamp their hospitality. My friend ordered the Sauerbraten. It tasted nasty. When I tried the meat, it literally made me gag. My goulasch tasted better, but it was only meat and gravy. The strudel was cold on the inside and dried out on the outside. The carrot cake tasted decent, but the frosting literally broke into pieces....
