This is a decades old cantina. 10-15 visits, twice on this trip. The basics, top notch service, extensive variety of alcohol, choices of domestic and imported to your hearts delight. Original section and a covered patio. People bring their families here to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. I don't think I would bring children under 10. Original section of this cantina is quieter than the patio section, but someone can hire the roving mariachi 6-7 instruments and it gets loud very quickly. Very very traditional Mexican menu. I always order the same thing, so I'll tell you about that. It is called a Molcajete, originally a stone cooking "tool" to make salsas. Imagine a large pestle mortar with arrachera, cheese, chistorra, onions and salsa, and pork grinds served piping hot with tortillas. Enough for 4 to eat generously. I always come back ridiculously low prices superior restrooms always well stocked bring 10 pesos. Restrooms have an attendant that hands you paper towels, hair spray or cologne. I'm not a drinker but the vibe is pure Mexico. Located in a perfectly safe area in the picturesque Coyocan. Extremely popular with the local business employees....
Read moreOur experience here was purely at the bar and nothing to do with food since we did not dine here.
While on a walking tour of Coyoacan, we stopped in here early afternoon for a quick drink before going to the market next door for some food. They didnt have any non smoking tables available for our party but the ONE bartender who spoke english invited us to stand at the bar and have drinks. The bartender, Alfredo, was such a blast! He was entertaining, comical, and flamboyant, even admitting that he was bi-sexual while flirting with my husband! LOL
He gave us all mezcal shots and one with a worm which he made one of my friends take (eeew). She took it like a champ though!
We came in only wanting to have ONE drink each and ended up having.....about six drinks each!!! Everything from, wine, to beer, to tequila...and everything in between. Our liver needs recovery from our 4 day weekend in Mexico City! Our bill came out to about $650 pesos (at the current exchange rate, its about $36 USD!) Love the exchange rate right now!
We had so much fun, we were literally the loudest party at this Cantina (that's no surprise with a group of...
Read moreThis place is usually very busy and crowded, so i went with my family in a time that wasn't as busy, still the service wasn't as good as i would expect. The waiter was politically correct but wasn't nice, he took the order in a rush and made us feel we were being obnoxious. By the time the food came to the table we weren't able to eat cause we didn't have silverware and the waiter wasn't around, it was the busboy who helped us better and he was nicer than the waiter. My aunt was the one paying and she was by far the more upset with the service, so honestly i don't know how much tip she left, but i know the waiter made sure to follow us all the way to the main entrance looking rudely at us to ask her if she needed her change. The food is good, it is not amazing but good. It was the service what didn't fulfilled the...
