We came here after seeing lots of recommendations for it.

mistake 1 was sitting outside, got a lot of panhandlers coming right in our faces.

menu was a bit limited. we opted to split an egg entree. food and americano were good. the main issue is we were being circled and hovered over by the wait staff. it was to such an extent where it was uncomfortable.

it felt as if they were just watching us start to finish and constantly directly behind our chairs. at one point we finished our plate. the waiter grabs it and stood there with this hand out until my partner finished the last spoon full of beans - even though my partner still had the bowl in his hand.

the place wasn’t packed so there was no rush to get us out. we are under the impression they see tourists and want a big tip so crank the service to 100000%. we also paid in cash and were expecting significant change. this was the one time they stopped the service and seemed to disappear. we had to request for our change after 10 minutes. previously they were on top of us...

10/25/2025 update: I GOT SICK!!!!!

I almost threw up right in the spot!

I usually don’t post negative reviews but damn, I had high expectations based on the way the place looks and the prices.

  1. I ordered an iced americano, they brought me a hot americano

  2. I ordered no onion in my food - got onions all over my food - as I was eating the omelette all I could taste was the onions and the oil/fat they used to cook, it was soaking in oil, I had to stop eating because I could feel the vomit coming.

  3. I ordered pancakes and they were soaked in the sweetest maple syrup, all I could taste was the sugar - plus I had to wait 20 minutes for them

The taste of the food was really not there, like amateurs cooks trying out recipes.

I ended up paying almost $700 which is about $35 USD.

I wouldn’t mind the price if the food was good, but it really wasn’t.

I see other reviews saying the same thing so it’s an ongoing issue.

They have the equipment to be better cooks so I hope this review helps improve the quality...

Came here as we heard it had the best french toast in town and it did not disappoint. We also got the avocado toast with bacon, which was the perfect size and delicious. If I had to pick out one downside on the food, the tomato wasn't of heirloom type and wasn't as flavourful as expected.

One other experience we did not find enjoyable was towards the end of our meal, the music folks came around for money collection and it was quite forceful. We didn't have any small change and both individuals tried to collect from our separately. To just move the second individual along, we mentioned we may have some change from our bill, and sure enough, he was back to collect when our change was returned. To be honest, given the forcefulness, I would have preferred to not have rewarded this behaviour, but we felt we had no option. This did not end with a great experience for us. This is why I've deducted one star, although I know it may not be under Lalo's control, but they may be able to provide...

Totally overrated, up to the point you can call it a tourist trap. They try to pose more hipster by limiting your choices. Ask for eggs scrambled with bacon and you'll get egg scrambled with two whole slices which they can be bothered to chop further. Ask for eggs with chorizo and you'll find it with undercooked potatoes. BTW it may not be chorizo but a weird and surely eco-friendly version of it, it really doesn't taste like it. Hope you don't sweet your coffee because, again, the only option will be brown sugar that is so old that you will have trouble pouring it, see pic. This is not a one time experience, living in Mexico and loving it's food and service, I have come several times trying to have basis for a fair review, and this one is from the average experience. Search for Motín if you want a posh but delicious breakfast around the neighborhood. The second star is for having English speaking staff, but then again, that's not hard to find.
