I have been several times to Maque in Condesa over the past few years for breakfast and despite the fact that it gets very crowded and people have to wait in line for a table, the personnel has always been very nice, fast and accommodating. The food is really good whether you order their pastries or salty dishes. The portions are pretty big too and they serve you a complimentary sweet bread of your choice. The chilaquiles, eggs (various styles), enfrijoladas and omelettes are very good.

Now this past two weeks I have visited twice their location in Calle Varsovia and both times the service has been way too slow. During my last visit I waited 15 minutes standing in the entrance although the waiters had only 4-5 tables to attend to and there being 4 tables available (that needed to be cleaned up). There is a lack of communication from the personnel to the customers upon arrival and a lack of communication between the personnel. I’ve waited but there was a party of 4 that left because they had not been welcomed by anyone.

I still recommend going to Maque for breakfast though as the food is very good but I hope my feedback can help the management improve the aspects I...

Don't go there. My friend and I were attacked by dozens of mosquitoes as soon as we sat down. They were coming from the large pots of philodendrons inside the cafe. There are no insect-control measures at all. More importantly, the pastries were small, dry, tasteless and look like they were picked up at the nearest OXXO. I asked for a chocolatín but got a bigotito with some brown flaky filling that was definitely not chocolate. The spinach omelette was not made with fresh spinach and the side of potatoes had absolutely no flavor or seasoning. The staff inside are not knowledgeable about their own pastries. I had initially asked about the availability of berlinesas before entering. They assured me they have berlinesas. It wasn't until after I sat down that they reported they have no berlinesas. This place is a poor-quality cafe that is unprofessional, unsanitary, and utterly deceitful with their products and services. Please go across the Avenida Chapultepec to the dozens of other fine artesanal bakeries in Roma Norte instead of this...

My wife and I had a very weird experience here. After we were seated upstairs and ordered drinks, they seemed to forget because I had to remind them after 15 minutes. We then ordered food, I got the ham and cheese croissant and wife got moultenos.

We had to check in with the waiter because 30 minutes went by and there was still no update, even though the tables that came after us already got their food. We also noticed they didn't offer us bread like the other tables. When the food finally came, it tasted fine but was a bit cold.

When we got our check, there were 4 things on there that we didn't order and had to tell them. Just a weird experience overall, they never checked up on us, no apologies, and when I walked by the kitchen on the way to the bathroom, a lot of the wait staff were just chilling there chatting and waiting.

+1 star...

Omelette de quitlacoche w manchego: Oh this was so good!! Quitlacoche is a type of fungus that grows from mushroom and that’s exactly what it tasted like with a little char flavor. There were little crispy flakey things on a bed of tomato sauce and everything combined into a delectable bite! Actually funny thing was I saw someone order this from another table and it looked really interesting (note the elderly always know what to order) Chicken tinga empanada: Ah the pastry was so flakey; it kind of reminded me of filo dough. The filling was a delicious blend of chicken, tomatoes, and a little bit of onion. Love the salad and the dressing. Peach pastry? Part of pan Dulce offering: This was ok. The pastry was dry and the peach jam a little too sweet. Weird I don’t see peach or durazno on the menu.

The worst meal we had in Mexico City. My wife ordered eggs, which arrived room temperature with congealed cheese. I got the chilaquiles based on all the positive reviews. It was supposed to come with chicken and eggs -- and came with neither. When I asked for them, they took my dish away and put an egg on top - but still no chicken. Finally, the waitress brought us a bowl of boiled chicken. The entire dish was tasteless and cold by the time the chicken got there. The entire meal, they kept trying to upsell us - more pastries, more juice - felt like I was constantly being hassled. Worst of all, this place was expensive- 900 pesos for a breakfast that neither of us finished. Avoid this place. Go to one of the many other wonderful breakfast spots in the area.

Full disclosure, I'm not a local, but to me this place seems rather expensive for what it is. What others have mentioned about the constant upselling is absolutely true and most of the patrons seem to be tourists. For a chai (made without real tea), a pastry, an orange juice, and bacon and eggs (admittedly a poor choice by me due to my poor grasp of Spanish), it cost me nearly MXN$500, incl. a 20% tip. None of the food was of remarkable quality or quantity. While the staff were friendly and attentive, I'm still finding it very difficult to justify the cost and the meal itself was rather underwhelming. I won't be returning and I'm sorry to say that I do not recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good food or value for money.
