We were there on 3.29.24, and I thought it looked like a fun place. Got there at 12pm, no one was there except a couple from Iowa eating on the balcony (views aren't good, the surrounding area is dirty, lots of trash). We wanted to eat on the beach but saw signs that said Cash only. At the time, we only had $15 but didn't see any cash signs only at Ozzies. When we walked in, we noticed an American at the bar that welcomed us in. (Hard to communicate in Bucerias) We shared 3 tacos, 2 margaritas, and 2 fireball shots. The bill came to whatever in pesos, said we'll be paying in dollars, waiter said $60 (which didn't add up right when we did the exchange then he said he does 15% up charge) we handed him our debit card, he said Cash only. We're like, what? "There's no where that says Cash only. " Owner, "it must have fallen off. I guess this is your lucky day for a free lunch" Us.."we can do venmo, what the number, we can pay for it, we don't want it for free." Let me call my partner. He tried 1 time for about 2 sec, his partner didn't answer. "I JUST FOUND OUT MY WIFE HAS CANCER, I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS, JUST GO, IT'S FREE!!!" Geez!!! We left feeling horrible, and then he came outside after telling us he couldn't deal with it but continued to yell at us when we were willing to pay thru venmo!!!!!! Now I can see why it was so empty!!!!!!!!! Make sure you use better tape on your Cash Only sign!! Maybe put it on the menu, maybe know what the venmo number is, I'm sure we're not the only ones that this has happened to!!! Never again!
6/24 Ozzie himself responded to my review.(who wasn't there, other manager couldn't get a hold of you? 1. YOU ARE A LIAR! We weren't "well into our drinks for the day before getting there." We had just walked one hour from Puerta Vallarta in the hot and windy weather! 2.There was no sign on the outside of the door. We went upstairs.. no sign.. when we were walking thru the main floor, we weren't seeking out a Cash Only written on a chauk board, we went upstairs quickly. We had been to plenty of places that didn't take cash, and we used our card.. that was our intentions. No, we did not know we only had $15 Cash because WE WERE GOING TO USE OUR CARD! I have never been treated so rudely. I have 28 million viewers on Google, and I have never given any place a 1 star expect for Ozzies! No one mentioned there was an ATM close. (like Ozzie said.. we weren't familiar with the area) We offered Venmo. How hard is that? Why don't you send "Marsha" a nasty email after she said she didn't like your hamburgers! What a joke. Now I can see why it wasn't busy at all!! Yeah, my tacos and drinks were good, but "managenent" (I use that word loosely) has a lot to be desired!! So no, after we were rudely talked to, we didn't feel like coming back to that awful place. We felt so dispectful! We felt unsafe there! Do you treat all women customers like that? Yelling at them while we were walking down the sidewalk Getting blamed for the other owners wife's cancer??? Lol...
Read moreWalked in to a sports bar type environment. Sports on the multiple TV screens, music in the background that is not invasive. Layout is pretty cool with a second level and balcony. Lower level doesn't have a lot of space but plenty of more tables on the upper level. I am sure in peak season this place will be packed.
A glass of chardonnay has been delivered and is ice cold (and delicious). Ordered the "Tommy Want Wingy".....a pound of wings Buffalo style. I like it spicy. There are two other options available as well less spicy for those of you with milder tongues.
The wings are the most expensive thing on the menu and that is only $200 pesos so this is an inexpensive restaurant. Let's dig into the wings.
Tender and juicy wings. I find them a little mild heat wise but as mentioned earlier I really like spicy so my taste is skewed. For the average person these would be spicy. Flavor wise they are amazing. Tantalizing the taste buds and making you want more. It is a great Buffalo style wing. I received 8 large wings which compares to a typical pound of wings. There is plenty of sauce tossed on the wings, they are, according to the owners, baked for two hours then fried before being tossed in the sauce of your choice. The flavor and texture of these wings tells me he is honest.
I met the owner briefly and he confirmed the cooking method noted above and it is straight up how they do it. It is nice when the owner will walk around the restaurant and check in on how peoples meals and service are. That makes me extra impressed.
Overall result? 5.5 out of 5. This is a must stop by when you are in Bucerias. A sports bar isn't for everyone but even if you are not into the sports bar scene you will be very happy with the "quiet but lively" environment, food and amazing service....
Read moreOur server was the only decent part of this visit.
Terrible views, dead inside, and 15% markup from the standard conversion rate from dollars to pesos.
It was $60 for 3 tacos, 2 margaritas, and 2 shots of fireball. I explained it sounded high. The server then said the owner charges 15% more than the standard rate for dollars to pesos. We said OK & got out our cards to pay. We were then told it was “cash only”. We explained we only had $15 on us, and then who we thought was the owner came over.
He said we could pay Venmo, but he just needed to call his business partner (I’m assuming Ozzie) to get the Venmo info. He hangs up the phone after 5 sec & then tells us our meal is free now, his wife has cancer, and he doesn’t want to deal with us. We’re sitting there shocked, after offering to pay, and he storms off. As we leave, we approach him and explain we had no problem paying through Venmo. He then followed us out of the building and started screaming something we couldn’t understand at us in the street. Scary, not welcoming, embarrassing, and rude — 0/5 if I could.
EDIT AFTER RESPONSE FROM OWNER
There’s one of two ways an owner can respond to a negative review. They can either choose to use the review as constructive criticism and make improvements or lie about what actually happened to make themselves look good and continue to make the same errors. You...
