As we have a large expat community here in Rinconada (Puerto Escondido) we're always comparing notes and experiences .. this small/cramped cafe/bakery (with very limited seating, 4 tables) has been given multiple opportunities to shine, but falls flat consistently. From the overpriced and stale offerings to the absolutely terrible service (you'll need perfect Spanish to communicate, especially if there's an issue, and there always is) "is everything fresh today?" No response.."fresco todo?".." ah si, si" it's not true! After sorting through many negative reviews that I was not alone in my disappointment, and having given this place many second chances.. do yourself a favor.. just a few steps down in the road is El Cafecito.. the Kings of morning coffee and baked goods.. vastly superior, and cheaper! I'm sure the only reason Dulce Tierra is still around is the lack of options, or people don't know you can bypass the always crowded line at El Cafecito for their takeout.. If zero stars were an option.. that would be our rating, and God forbid, a young man claiming to be the owner (we know Carlos, this was the manager, so liar to the list of discredits) is present.. rude, condescending and always shifting the blame to us gringo customers.. today he actually confronted me in the line when I simply wanted to correct the mistake his staff made in our order.. they were at a loss, raising their hands in uncertainty..he said "you're in Mexico..we speak Spanish..you have to not expect your order if we don't understand what you want.." and made no attempt to rectify the issues, even though communicating in English with him was fine. Absolutely...
Read moreService is bad. Ordering and seating is confusing. This place seemed very busy and like a good place for lunch. I realize now that they’re only look busy because service is so terrible. Ordering is incredibly confusing as l as figuring out seating. There are multiple people behind the counter and it seems like everyone can take your order but only one can Process your payment. Seating appears to be free for all. We ordered some pastries and sandwiches and told them we were upstairs. After an hour, nothing. No pastries. Our friend arrived late and went to order. She got her pastries immediately. I think they completely forget our order and said that there were a few people in front of us and they could make it really quickly. They forgot. They finally brought out the croissant and cookie my friend had ordered an hour ago. The croissant was bready and I was disappointed. The Sandwiches were fine. But no sandwich is worth a 2 hour wait. There is plenty of local food that is cheap and fast. Don’t come here...
Read moreI’m a local and this place generally is one of the best places for pastries when fresh! The service is generally atrocious, sometimes exceptionally, today was exceptionally atrocious. On entering I noticed they only had 2 cinnamon rolls, so I quickly ordered 1, some banana bread and an expresso. Went upstairs to wait for my order and within 5 minutes I had my pastries, great, but no coffee to enjoy with it! I sat looking at it waiting for my coffee, 15 minutes later I had ask for it, about 5 minutes later it came, but 20 minutes for an expresso? After all this time I asked to package my cinnamon roll to go, was there much longer than expected. I then went pay and get my order to go, but no cinnamon roll!! Somebody robbed the fresh one I got on entering. They glazed another one fairly quickly and I took home,,,,it had to be AT LEAST A DAY OLD, IF NOT 2! HARD AS A ROCK, CRUNCHY AND STAIL,,,EVEN TO THE CENTER! Absolute...
