I was very surprised to learn this is a Michelin starred restaurant . The food, ambience and service is at best average . The restaurant is exactly like every other restaurant in the strip with dark oak tables . There is no particular ambience and nothing which distinguishes it, inside .
The waitresses are dressed well in blue trouser suits . They are friendly and can speak English but the waitress who served me was somewhat strange . See my comments below.
To start with I was furnished with an amous bouche which was delicious ( a watery pea soup).
I was then provided with traditional local fayre of tortilla crackers and 3 dips . This is served in every restaurant . What was odd and off about the service however, is that despite the fact I was eating the Tortilla and holding it , she took my plate away stating my main course was ready. This was not only impolite but also surprising because I had only ordered 10 minutes previously . At every other restaurant visited in Puerto , the food was freshly prepared , hot and there was always a good delay between ordering and eating . I would say around 20-25 minutes . Here it was less than 10 minutes ,from the moment I ordered. The pork was cold , uninspiring but edible . The sweet potato mash was cold . The best most flavoursome item on the plate was the cucumber salad.
There is a good wine menu but again they filled the glass with less than a quarter of it, if ordering by the glass. It was also expensive at 310 per glass.
At any restaurant , one wants to savour the food and enjoy the experience . At a Michelin starred , you would expect this even more. At this restaurant , I was out within 40 mins . All in all a disappointing and uninspiring experience . Given the cost ( 1200 peso) , I would have expected a more enjoyable experience in terms of food and ambience . I am really not surprised that in peak season only 3 tables...
Read moreThe three of us had the tasting menu and agreed some dishes were better than others. Our favorite hands-down was the pana puri-inspired blue corn puff stuffed with green chorizo and beans. The ceviche was similarly amazing and my friend’s top top favorite was actually the fish and shrimp tostada. The mini tamal was nice but forgettable. Same with the beets and cheese inside the oja de santa leaf. The fish and mussel with dill sauce was just that. The pork confit was dry and the bean sauce didn’t have any of the oja santa flavor. The chocolate tamal was okay but a bit forgettable, and one of the raspberries they’d used to garnish it had already gone off. The chocolate passionfruit truffle was nice.
The “pre-dessert” really disappointed me since I had stated when booking that I was gluten-free and couldn’t eat wheat. They asked again when we were seated for dinner. And then the waitress checked with the chefs when we ordered. YET I was served sourdough bread with smoked cheese and honey for the “pre-dessert”. The waitress apologized but didn’t offer a replacement or offer to take away the dish, she just left it and served other tables. I ended up giving the course to my friends. As a dish, the opinion is that the smoked cheese overpowered the honey and even though the bread was soaked in the honey they couldn’t taste any of the almoraduz, which was disappointing as it is the restaurant’s namesake.
Overall it was fine, and service was excellent, but for London prices in Oaxaca,...
Read moreVery unique experience. Unfortunately, they no longer have mole enchiladas but they have other very delicious dishes. They bring you 3 different types of toasted tortillas and 3 salsas to start. One of which has crushed campulines and was my favorite. We ordered the beef ravioli for our appetizer and the sauce was so good with black truffle and cheese. They also bring you an esquite with house made mayo, cheese and crushed campulines. My main dish was the risotto de setas with mushroom and flor de calabaza. Was so rich and creamy. My husband ordered the steak with asparagus and potatos and a red wine sauce. Sauce was the best ever had. The potatoes were torched and also the best mashed potatoes I ever had. I ordered the hibicus and guava drink, it was very delicious. The chocolate stuffed churros are a must! The chocolate filling tastea like rich pur dark chocolate saucw that is insane. Overall, 10/10, the service was fast and very friendly. If you are not a fan of campulines then you may want to aak before ordering. The restaurant is upscale, but looks casual when you walk up to it. The waiters do treat you like you are at a 5 star...
